    Theatrical Trailer (HD)

The place: World War II Burma. The mission: Drive a fatal wedge between an enemy linkup. The troops: the 5307th Composite Unit, led by Brig. Gen. Frank Merrill (Jeff Chandler) and manned by Stock (Ty Hardin), Chowhound (Will Hutchins), Kolowicz (Claude Akins) and other young dogfaces who, after a few weeks of basic training, have the fate of the world loaded on their backs. Maverick director Samuel Fuller, whose later The Big Red One is a benchmark work about GIs in World War II’s European theater, turned to the war in the Pacific for Merrill’s Marauders. Few moviemakers capture life among the grunts as well as Fuller. He brings you up close and personal to the intense, gritty heroics of our World War II combat veterans.

I'm interested. This is a Sam Fuller movie and it's a Warner Archive Blu-ray disc. Yes, I'm interested!

I've never seen it, but, it looks like an interesting movie, especially with some of that cast! That being said, especially with everything else that seems to be coming down the pike, this is one I'll be saving for a 4 for $44 sale.

Jeff Chandler's last picture. Per wikipedia:

While working on Merrill's Marauders in the Philippines, on April 15, 1961, Chandler injured his back while playing baseball with U.S. Army Special Forces soldiers who served as extras in the film. He had injections to deaden the pain and enable him to finish the production.

On May 13, 1961, he entered a Culver City hospital and had surgery for a spinal disc herniation. There were severe complications; an artery was damaged and Chandler hemorrhaged. On May 17, in a seven-and-a-half-hour emergency operation over-and-above the original surgery, he was given 55 pints of blood. A third operation followed, on May 27, where he received an additional 20 pints of blood. He died on June 17, 1961. The cause was a blood infection complicated by pneumonia.

Terrible way to go. Far too young. Never knew that.

Great news! I watched this one a few times back on tv in the 80s. It’ll be great to see it how it was intended for the first time.
