Actually, if Fox could put the first two films in the series on a single DVD, that would do me just fine.
No need for the "anamorphic" transfer as all of these movies were filmed in the Academy ratio, 1.37; a full-frame transfer is perfect.Yes, you're correct here, of course. No Widescreen in 1940.
Thanks for straightening me out! A nice FF (1.37:1) re-mastering is what we need!
YES, from beyond the grave! Basil Rathbone died in 1967, whereas THE GREAT MOUSE DETECTIVE was released in 1986. The famous "horror" star who lent his voice to this Disney film was Rathbone's frequent co-star during his final years, VINCENT PRICE!Actually, in the original theatrical release, they did use Rathbone's voice (from one of the public-domain pictures) for the "detective" who lived above Basil's mouse house. He was even listed in the end credits (awkwardly, if I remember correctly; something like "voice performance by Basil Rathbone" or something). When the film was theatrically reissued in the 1992, his voice - and the credit - was removed (along with a title change for the movie to "The Adventures of The Great Mouse Detective"). It wasn't on the LaserDisc and I don't know if it's been restored to the DVD.
