If you do apparently Adire and Resonant Engineering have something in store for you.

From Resonant Engineering on Acoustic-Visions's Forum:
Not much to add until CES... just that you can now fit the linear displacement of over a dozen 15XXX subs on a 24"X24" baffle.

"RE... breaking your piggy bank in 2004" :D
Apparently Adire will be coming out with a version of it called the Apocolypse with a lower Fs. There are rumors that the Apocolypse will have over 4" of x-may 1 way.

Do some math and find that 12 RE XXX 15s displace 62.208L

Scary things are coming. :D

Holy shit, is this really true? There was a big discussion about how subs can't go past a certain x-max right now due to the technology being used, so does that mean these new ones have some new fancy design?? Interesting to say the least.

It will cost alot more than a tempest I think it will be over a gand. RE alsohas a 8 coming out that claims to have 32 mm of xmax and a mrsp of $509.

finally...a sub that will handle the full force of the K2 bridged :).....better scrap the new enclosure and get working on the new one :D

If it's performance is similar to 12 RE XXX 15" subs in 1 box it'd be good for almost 140dB anechoic at 20Hz. Interesting.

Well, I'll tell ya what I would like to see (though I don't know if the current laws of driver design allow for it). I want a driver that can displace even just as much as an AV15 (a Tumult if I get greedy) but with a sensitivity in the upper 90's. THAT I would fork over money for.

I wonder where I can put it... ;)
My wife would kill me...
I bought a Hitachi 65" TV in January, a QSC amp and a sealed tumult from Acoustic Visions in april, and just ordered a custom built rifle. Not to mention a new 350Z track...

I need to go veg out at the TV so I forget about...140dB anechoic at 20Hz...140dB anechoic at 20Hz...140dB anechoic at 20Hz...140dB anechoic at 20Hz...140dB anechoic at 20Hz...140dB anechoic at 20Hz...140dB anechoic at 20Hz...140dB anechoic at 20Hz...

Reality check, that is insane...

I guess the inevitable question will have to be "When is enough, enough?". Seems like massive output bass drivers are going the way of the PC. As soon as you think it can't go any lower/louder/smaller, it does! :)

I'll take two, please....

So... I guess everyone who thought they wouldn't preorder anything again is having second thoughts about it. :D :emoji_thumbsup: :D

That thing sounds completely insane. 4" xmax? How are you supposed to keep that thing from destroying your house?!?

Guess I'll have to use my closet and add cross bracing. Of course this means I'll have to put my clothes on the ground in a circle around the listening area in a random sound dampening formation. Oh, wait, it's already like that...

Maybe with this sub, the power handling will exceed the output of all modern monoblock amplifiers. (Including the JBL 6000watt beast)

Then they will start a pre-order for them come Winter 2003, and people should expect them about the same time the Tumult gets shipped.

Mwahaha :D

oh...how about quad 4 ohm coils with a 2500watt RMS rating on each coil. looks like I will need 4 K2's :D

Yeah, the first thing I did was check the dates of those first posts on the AV forum to make sure they weren't anywhere near the beginning of April.

But the fact is, anything is possible, even if you're just scaling up current technology. A giant set of spiders and a giant half-roll surround could allow that much Xmax, and we've already heard them say they've got motors that push that far. But scaling up current tech would mean several design compromises, like narrow bandwidth, suspension resonances, wider motor clearances eating up efficiency, etc. Also, the driver would simply weigh a ton.

Another thing to keep in mind is that even if they've engineered around the compromises, this monster will still conform to Hoffmans iron law which says, "Efficiency, small enclosure size, and deep response--pick any two you like." So if it has a low Fs, it will either need to be mounted in an armoire (minimum) or it'll need Anthony's quad K2s to stretch its legs.

Whatever specs it ends up with, I don't think I'm going out on a limb when I speculate it'll be priced at $2K+ and manufactured only in small quantities. At least trickle-down should keep the whole consumer line advancing.

Whatever happens, I must admit I'm already drunk on the possibilities!

However, this monster is making me nervous, wondering if Adire is about to patent the suspension design I've been working on for over a year now. ...Going to get my drawings notarized *today*...
