My buddy gave me some m&m's today and I was shocked that they added purple to the batch!! Then I was reminded when m&m's were just brown, red, orange, green, yellow, and some sparse tan/lgt. brown colors. Anyone else remember that? No one else seems to remember the tan ones. Anyone wish blue and now purple never replaced tan?

I really miss the tan M&Ms. The nice beige candy coating complemented the sweet milky chocolately center. The blue ones always seem too artificial to me. How many foods are naturally neon blue? Gross! And now purple M&Ms? Note to candy making Oompa Loopas...M&Ms are not Smarties and, therefore, should not be available in Smarties colours!

I remember tan M&M's. I guess the color changes with M&M's have come about in an attempt to make M&M's hip. It's all marketing. When I was a kid (late '70s and early '80s), we had tan M&M's. Back then, everyone wore brown and related colors. Brown hasn't been a fashionable color in years, so maybe that explains why tan was dropped from M&M's in favor of more vibrant colors. Now M&M's look like Skittles. [IMG]

To quote Homer Simpson: "Red M&M, blue M&M, they all come out the same color in the end." [IMG]

I also remember the tan ones. They're currently testing three new colors: purple, pink, and teal. You can vote on which one of the three you'd like to see as a permanent color starting in March.

This "voting" thing is in vogue lately; Starburst considered replacing lemon with green apple, and tested it as a replacement for a while, but green apple was soundly defeated once the polls opened. Personally, I think they should have kept both flavors and dropped that damned strawberry. Maybe next time.

I remember the tan M&Ms well. I also remember when the red ones were dropped for quite a few years because of a cancer scare with the red dye. Once they found a safer alternative, they came back.
Actually, M&Ms are available in 21 different colors from black to aqua green. You can make and buy your own mix from their Web site and at some stores where they sell bulk candy from the bins.

I wish I could get a screen still from my Wayne's World 2 DVD to work, but if you have time, check out the m&m separating scene--ch10, 45:39 min into the movie. That's right...tan ones!

Regarding blue food, there was a time when Cap'n Crunch Crunch Berries only had the red berries. Now they have blue berries too. [IMG]

    I remember them.

And all the colors taste the same to me.

Personally, I like the red and green mixes at Christmas.

As for blue and nature: I've always wondered why people don't have blue or green hair? (except for little old ladies and punkers, respectively)
