Really I only think we have two stars who are likely to achieve the classic level of success the yesteryear stars have generated by now.

Tom Hanks

I agree. But, who would have thought 20 years ago after seeing Bosom Buddies and Bachelor Party. We would consider Tom Hanks a icon of dramatic films. :)

I can't believe he is going to be 50 this year. Time has flown.

Roberts is approaching 40 and roles for women over that age are extremely thin on the ground. For some reason, I can't see Julia Roberts competing with the likes of Foster and Streep for the big, complex roles. It's interesting that you omitted Susan Sarandon, probably the only actress other than Streep who is over 50 that can get roles where she doesn't play someone's slutty grandma (I'm looking at you, Shirley).
