I’ve been lurking here for some time, and while I’m sure the $1000 on up prices for the higher-end receivers are justified. However, in looking to set up second HT in the house I would hoping to find a great HT receiver for about $500.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

I picked up a refurbed Harman Kardon AVR 525 off of ebay last week from Harman direct for $500, including shipping and a 2 year warranty. I think it was the best value for the money that I could have possibly found.

I will add my two cents in for the Harmon Kardon AVR 325. I picked up a brand new one for 475$ at onecall. Awesome receiver.

If you don't mind refurbs, definitely check out the H/Ks at Harman Audio's Ebay store. As Jon said, you can get a 525 for $500, or a 325 for about $375. These represent excellent values, even if you buy new.

I also agree with the Harman/Kardon. Denon and Onkyo are also nice around that price range, and I think 6ave is having a sale on the Denon's.

lol, 6ave is having a little more than a sale on the Denon 3803

$648! for a receiver that most places is selling for $999

That is what I am getting from another source for about the same price :)
