...those plastic (black) thingys that inserts into holes.

I'm planning to build an entertainment center. On each shelf where my components will sit I plan to bore a 2 or 3-inch hole where I can feed plugs and cables through. I would like to place a 'plastic thingy' into each hole to guard against splinters (and just make it look more polished).

Does anyone know what they are called?

I normally thing of gromments as those black rubber things that are inserted into the holes on metal chassis to feed wires through.

I am assuming you're thinking of the larger sized things that you might find on desks, etc. to feed cables through. I assume these are also probably called gromments.

I believe I saw a large selection of many different kinds at Lowes.

Tony thanks for the info on the Rockler site. I think. I found quite a few items I have been looking for. Unfortunately my wife saw some things she liked too. Looks like my next project will be refacing the kitchen cabinets and not hanging my new rear speakers !!
