According to IMDB, they have the rights to several hundred films, some of them good. I don't think any are on DVD. Who are they and how does one contact them?

Media Home Entertainment is a long defunct video distributor who specialized in genre (mostly horror, sci-fi, thrillers) films. Many of the titles they released on video in the early and mid-eighties have been released on DVD by companies like Anchor Bay. There are still plenty more, of course, that have yet to surface on DVD. I don't know how the rights issues worked out with all their titles when they went under, but I'd imagine that the IMDb information--if it says that Media holds the rights to a particular film--is now outdated.

They were one of the very first home video companies, starting out in 1978. Their big break was helping New Line finance the "Nightmare on Elm Street" movies. Eventually they merged with Fox Video and slipped into obscurity however, though people like me will always have a place in their heart for them [IMG]

F.Y.I. Their original name was MEDA entertainment. I have a few of their first tapes on both VHS and Beta (e.g. Reefer Madness) with the "MEDA" name on them. They later reissued the same titles with the now familiar "Media" monicker after the name change.

MEDA must have been initials or something, but later became Media probably because video is a type of "media." Just a guess though.

Ironically, MEDA sounds like the Spanish word "Mira," which means to look or see.

Ok so if Media Home Entertainment are long gone then who owns most of (if not all) their catalog?

I'm trying to find out who owns "Johnny Got His Gun" (starring Jason Robards.) This was originally released on VHS by Media but has been out of print for quite some time now.

If anybody can help, I'd sure appreciate it.

Wow, a blast from the past.

I worked for MEDIA Home entertainment in 1984-1985.

They were purchased by HERON Corp (a privately held company in europe) in 1985.

They owned distribution rights to many films.

The best acquisition for MEDIA was the "Nostalgia Merchant" a company that

had a lot of old classic films in fairly good condition.

I remember dancing with a girl named Betsy while we worked on the

Fred Astair and Ginger Rodgers series of films.

PS. Betsy I finally found where your panties disappeared to.

And no I didn't keep them (they didn't fit anyway).

    Sorry,

That was a lifetime ago. I don't know anything about who owns what.

I was in the technical end of the company.
