With all of the re-releases, special editions, ultimate editions, and ultimate special editions, I was wondering who here had the record for the most 'upgrades' of movies in their collection?
I've tried to resist the urge, but I've still been bitten eight times. [IMG]

Since this is a poll-kind of question--and since polls are so rare in "Polls"--I thought it would be nice to put your thread here.

Hey, any of ya guys wanna take a break from all those "tournaments" and actually participate in a poll. Remember polls? Well, here's a poll: How many times have you repurchased the same title? Peter is at eight times.

    Hmmmm... For DVD's, let's see:
    • Jurassic Park - DD/DTS
    • Jaws - DD/DTS
    • Saving Private Ryan - DD/DTS
    • Die Hard - Regular/5 Star
    • Die Hard 2 - Regular/5 Star
    • Die Hard with a Vengeance - Regular/5 Star
    • Lethal Weapon - Regular/Director's Cut
    • Lethal Weapon 2 - Regular/Director's Cut
    • Lethal Weapon 3 - Regular/Director's Cut
    • A Bug's Life - Gold/CE
    • Tarzan - Regular/CE[/list=1]

Looks like 11 so far. Fortunately, many duplicates have been received as gifts, so I'm not personally out-of-pocket twice for each title. Others I'm trying to resist, but which may be futile:
      • Amistad - DD/DTS
      • The X-Files - DD/DTS
      • Peter Pan - LE/SE
      • The Mummy - Regular/UE
I will also repurchase an OAR/anamorphic version of Driving Miss Daisy if released. I asked for and received as a gift not knowing it was P&S. After all, why would DMD *not* be OAR?? [IMG]

Depending on how far we're supposed to look back, I could also add the LD and VHS versions of Lethal Weapon 1-4 (LD only for 4), Die Hard 1-3 (LD only for 3), and Jaws. Plus lots of additional VHS to LD to DVD upgrades. I've mostly stopped upgrading LD to DVD because my LD player is still functional and they still look pretty good. Unless it's a super-duper, special edition DVD, of course. [IMG]

I'll nominate...oh, sorry, force of habit. [IMG]
I have done a "rebuy" on the following titles:
    A Clockwork Orange
    2001: A Space Odyssey
    A Bug's Life
The Bridge on the River Kwai
    Charade
    Platoon
    Rushmore
    I guess that makes 7.

Well...I've bought the following films on VHS first and then replaced them with DVD's:

    Citizen Kane

    The Wizard of Oz

    2001

    Amadeus

    Weird Al: Live!

    Frankenstein (1931)

    Jurassic Park

    Fantasia

    All The World's A Stooge

    The Wolf Man

I'll upgrade my MGM 2001 to the remastered disc whenever I buy the Kubrick box. I'll definately buy the SE's for Amadeus and Blazing Saddles. I actually have one film on 3 formats: The Wizard of Oz. I have the CED, THX VHS, and the SE DVD.

Are we talking about how many times we've rebought movies in general, or one particular title.

If it's one particular title and we can count VHS and LD than let me count on a few titles:

    2001:

    VHS

    P&S LD

    CLV LBX LD

    CLV Criterion

    CAV Criterion

    Original DVD

    Remastered DVD

That's seven for that and for:

    Star Wars

    VHS

    P&S LD

    LBX LD

    Definitive Collection

    Special Edition

So that's 5, that makes 2001 my winner.

    2001: A Space Odyssey :
    VHS (pan and scan, mono)
    BETA (p & s, stereo)
    MGM LD (p & s)
    Criterion LD (lbx, CAV)
    MGM LD (lbx, CLV)
    MGM DVD (keepcase)
    Warner DVD (original version)
    Warner DVD (remastered version)
There are others as well, but 2001 is my most-repurchased title. I fully expect to buy it again in the next couple of years if Warner reissues it as a Special Edition DVD.

Dang - eight upgrades on a single movie! And I felt bad about upgrading these from one DVD version to another:
    Notorious
    Spartacus
    Bull Durham
    The Usual Suspects
Monty Python & the Holy Grail
    Seven
    Die Hard
    Total Recall
Plus I bought Memento knowing damn well I'd have to get the special edition in the very near future. I just use the excuse that I'm 'spreading the joy' by giving the old discs to family and friends. [IMG]

    Repurchases on DVD:
    Evil Dead 2
    Army of Darkness
    Entrapment
    Scream
    Silence of the Lambs
    Stargate
    Stargate SG-1 disc one
    Tomorrow Never Dies
    Upgrades from VHS:
    National Lampoon's Vacation
    Stargate
    Cutting Edge
    Apollo 13
    Dead Poets Society
    Slap Shot
    Independence Day
    Jurassic Park
As soon as I can afford them, I need to upgrade these on DVD:
    The Mummy
    Evangelion 0:1
    Replacement Killers
    Starship Troopers
    And replace my VHS Goonies.
So... 16 total so far. 5 more in the near future. Plus I know I'll buy both Fellowship of the Ring releases [IMG] And if it ever comes out, I'll be replacing my The Game DVD with a Criterion one.
[Edit: Adding more that I forgot originally]
