If you're a true TVonDVD collector there's no such thing as having your collection complete.

While I continue to close in on that elusive goal, every time I complete a series an announcement is made about another desired series that's then added to the list. If that doesn't occur then there'll be a new series I'll sample, like, and start adding to the collection.

I've added at least 6 series in the past year. That's in spite of completing at least a dozen or more.

I currently have 50 series for which I'm actively adding seasons. Of those, 15 or so are blind buys which I've yet to open and watch. They could easily wind up in my "I have all I want of this one" section and be considered "complete" for all practical purposes. Another 15 or so are in danger of being stalled so they could move to that section at any time.

My stalled list comprises 37 series. I'd complete all of those but 2 should they continue or be completed. One I'd not complete is Saturday Night Live simply because I don't want, or need, every season of that one but I would like to add the Jean Doumanian year, in spite of it being rather "bad," the Dick Ebersol years, and at least one or two of the years when Lorne Michaels returned. That makes another 5-7 seasons of that one. I pretty much figure hell will freeze over before those get a release. The other is My Three Sons. I didn't much care for that one after Robbie got married and would stop with either that season or the one prior. It's another in the "When hell freezes over" section due to CBS's unwillingness to remaster and rerelease it with the correct music tracks. I also might not continue Petticoat Junction after S5. It just wasn't the same after Bea Benaderet had to cut back her presence. But that's only 2 seasons so...

This.

The question posed in the thread title seems like an easy-to-answer "NOT ME".

Even if you were to obtain all of your most wanted series on disc, why limit yourself by declaring that your collection is complete? There's always the possibility of something else eventually coming out that you might want, or your interests may change and something that's been out for awhile may suddenly appeal to you even though originally you didn't want it.

Earlier this year, the series Decoy was released. This wasn't a series that had been on my wish list. I'd only heard of the show; never seen it; it wasn't even close to being on my radar. But then we got the news that it was being released. Considering it was a 50s cop drama starring Beverly Garland, I didn't hesitate to place an order, despite it not being a show I'd ever considered would or could be part of my collection. I'm definitely glad I made the blind buy.

As I mentioned last weekend in the "What's Left on Your Grail Show List?" thread, I now have many of my top most wanted shows. Beyond the remaining "grail" shows, there are still others I'd like to have or, in cases of shows I've never gotten the opportunity to watch, shows I'd be willing to take a chance on (like I did with Decoy) and blind buy them.

So, like Howie, I continue to get closer to having most of my most-wanted shows added to my collection. But I can't imagine calling mine a complete TV-on-disc collection as long as discs are still being produced and as long as there's even a slim possibility that there might be something more of interest that could come out in the future that I might like to add to what I already have.

I've gotta agree with all of those answers...besides the fact that I'm STILL waiting for St. Elsewhere...

I pretty much have all the classic shows I need, although I'd purchase Blu rays or upgrades for a lot of them.

I agree. I would upgrade Dallas if it were released on Single sided discs or Blu Ray. also think I would upgrade the West Wing if it were re released in either Single side or Blu Ray. I upgraded Knight Rider when Mill Creek re released it in Blu Ray due to poor quality on the Original Universal release. Im waiting to see with Star Trek . Last but not least. " I would like to see a Remastered complete release of Gomer Pyle USMC. Ive previously complained about the cuts on that one mainly because of Music rights

also think I would upgrade the West Wing if it were re released in either Single side or Blu Ray.

The first three seasons of The West Wing were re-released as single-sided dvd discs in the complete series set. (IIRC, they were 7 single-sided discs per season for seasons 1 to 3 in the complete series set).

I don't believe Warner has rereleased seasons 1 to 3 individually as single-sided 7-disc dvd seasons sets. (At least not in america).

I collect shows from various eras in TV history . Since many of my favorite show are from the nineteen fifties and early sixties (People's Choice , Topper , Our Miss Brooks , Trackdown, Tightrope , East Side West Side, Adventures in Paradise, WB detectives etc.) and those shows will never come out , my collection can never be complete. Even some nineteen seventies shows like Fernwood 2Nite most likely will never be released. Then again, Green Acres and Laugh In recently got releases , so you really can never say never !

This reminds me of a question someone asked me way back in 1985 when I had a collection of maybe 50? or so VHS movies. They asked me, "How many movies is it your goal to own?" I pulled a number out of my brain that seemed practically unachievable at the time, "2000". I'm ashamed to say that I've long since surpassed that goal.

My collection is close to "complete." This includes all aspects of it from tv to documentaries to movies and anything else in between. This is partially because I have no more room (and more than enough to catch up on :) ) but also I feel I have enough representation of the different genres and types of movies and television that adding more will not enhance the content of it nor add anything significant to it. I say close to completion though because I do have very strict guidelines on adding something. I have a few tv series and movie series that are not complete solely because the studios have chosen not to release the rest of the series on DVD/Blu Ray (or a couple blind buy that I did not complete the series and want to see the rest). Additionally if something I really really like that brings something new and original comes along I might consider those. These personal guidelines actually do not add a lot but they could add a few DVDs that fill in a couple holes.

With 6000+ discs, I am 99% finished, but there's always something that comes up, like TJ Hooker or The Magician. Having said that, my disc purchases are fewer are further between. I no longer actively look for things to buy. And there is far more money in my savings account these days...

I'd have to say that my collection is pretty close to complete. 85% of the TV on DVD I own is from the 70's (prime time) and just about everything that I want has been released. Sure, there are about 12 series that are currently stalled and will probably not get finished and there are about 5 or 6 shows that haven't been released that I would buy. Other than that, my 70's prime time shows are just about done.

There are far more 70s Saturday Morning shows that I'd like to have, so that collection is not as close to complete as I would like. The big ones on that list are the Sid and Marty Krofft shows that haven't been released. Those are on the top of my wish list.
