Tim Curry?? Wowzza!! Interesting choice, but then again he'll always be Gabriel Knight to me. :)
I think the character should be made female and the woman who played the ghost of christmas present in Scrooged should play her :)

EXACTLY! Do NOT remake this movie. And yes, Gene Wilder was the only man who could play Mr. Willy Wonka.

I can't see this film being remade. I don't want it remade. And Wilder is the only Willy Wonka.

Come on! Imagine him laying it all out to Charlie and Grandpa Joe:

(in your best Arnold Voice)

"Wrong, sir, wrong! Under Section Thirty-Seven B of

the contract signed by him it states quite clearly that all

offers shall become null and void if--and you can read it

for yourself in this photostatic copy: "I, the undersigned,

shall forfeit all rights, privileges, and licenses herein

and herein contained, et cetera, et cetera . . . fax mentis

incendium gloria culpum [the torch of the mind lights the

path to glory], et cetera, et cetera . . . memo bis

punitor delicatum! [I remember the spoiled punisher twice]

It's all there, black and white, clear as crystal! You stole

Fizzy Lifting Drinks. You bumped into the ceiling which now

has to be washed and sterilized, so you get nothing! You

lose! Good day, sir!

Imagining Arnie going through that was most amusing.

I recall a similar thread a few months back. The rumour at the time was Marilyn Manson or something.

If it had to be remade, I could see the once touted Nic Cage playing Wonka.

Never say never, so I'll say it'll be extremely unlikely that anyone could fill Wilder's shoes.

IMHO, Nicolas Cage really could pull this complex mixture of emotions off. He is a skilled actor, and his face suggests both great joy as the greatest candymaker in the world, and the stern, dark underbelly of Wonka.
Yeah, my money's on Nic Cage. :)

This movie doesn't need to be remade, however, Christopher Walken would be interesting in the part.

I agree that it's hard to imagine anyone else other than Wilder, but I think Alan Cumming would be a decent choice.

It's hard to imagine anyone but Gene Wilder as Wonka. But if it were remade, I'd go with Warwick Davis. Kidding aside, I could see Nicolas Cage, Harrison Ford, or Ewan McGregor playing him.

Didn't Alan Cummings already play a Willy Wonka knockoff in Spy Kids?
A highly simplified version, yes. (His American accent is SPOT ON, I might add.) Still, I wouldn't choose anyone to replace Gene Wilder. Maybee Cummings could be suited to a Willy Wonka and the Great Glass Elevator.
