Walking into B of A at lunch time I experienced the legend.

I was so surprised when asked to buy some speakers that I said "Holy Shit......The White Van Speakers guys do actually exist!" They quickly drove away.

I'm still trying to figure out where the White Van Speaker Guys fit in with the Men in Black, the Grey Aliens, and the Illuminati.

Yes they must fit in there somewhere. Watch what you say though, they are watching and listening to you.

    Kevin,

Did you buy the speakers? After all, they represent some fantastic bargains. [IMG] [IMG]

Do they really only drive white vans? If you're approached by a blue van, is it still considered a scam? White vans must be specified in the "how to chisel the public" handbook. I've never seen or heard about any of these guys in St. Louis. I'd actually like to see one just for fun and to hear what they have to say. [IMG]

    Tim,

Actually, I've been approached by a guy in grey van. Some people have been approached by people selling out of pickups. "White Van" is just the generic term that applies to them. Or, actually, some of the first scammers might have been using white vans to sell their snake oil speakers, so the term "white van" stuck.

That's the best part. They actually were driving a "white van" It made the experience complete.
It wasn't until I got back in my car that I remembered I had my camera with me. I'm thinking that picture would have been worth more than a snapshot of Bigfoot.

Wayne, I absolutely bought them! My MA S8's are sitting on the curb infront of my house as we speak. Salvation Army is scheduled to pick them up later today.

Anybody that buys speakers from anybody that simply comes up to them while out in public, certainly deserves the awesome deal they get for sure. lol

Doesn't count, man! It HAS to be a white van! [IMG]

And to complete the experience they should be talking surfer-talk from the 90's.

"Hey brah, want some killer speakers? Scored a great deal w/ my friend and you can have 'em cheap..." [IMG]

LMAO...Carlo, you just described my experience several years ago exactly.

I wonder what their application process is like. "Do you hail from SoCal and speak surfer-ese?...Do you know what color van to drive for maximum sales efficiency?"

Worst part about it is a guy at my work actually was suckered in by the "White Van Mafia" and shelled out $100 for these killer speakers. I believe the ploy around here is that they are "extras" from a big shipment and they are seeling em off cheap to make room in the warehouse or something like that..

I think he was under the impression that two speakers that each came in boxes the size of a mid size tv must be awesome. I tried to remind him its not the size that counts, its how you use em [IMG] (I think his woman told him the same thing)

You guys can trash these speakers all you want, but they're still a better buy than a B*se Acustamas system!

For all I know, built better, too!

And no, I do not own a pair.

I was approached by a guy in a tan van while driving down a main drag. IIRC, he haised me at a stoplight.

Sorry to bring this thread back to life, but saw the post from Texas and wondered if the guy has pursued getting his money back.

The site lists the scam artists address and even a code to get in their office building. Some people have had some success getting their money back.

There's some funny stories in there too.
