HBO Max seems to be a case-by-case sort of deal. The 1940's Popeye cartoons are most definitely using the WAC's restorations.

Does anyone know how to ask the Warner Archive folks a question these days on their Facebook page? I can't find a way to do that any more. Or, I guess I could just ask my question here: Is there any chance that the Joan Crawford
film LETTY LYNTON will ever escape from "Rights Hell" and get a decent release?

Although WAC don't seem to be as responsive as they once were, you can ask them a question by typing a message in the 'Create Post' field near the top of the page, or send them a direct/private message by clicking the 'Send Message' button. Good luck!

Does anybody know if there is even anybody running the WAC Facebook page at the moment? I only ask, because it seems that there have been no new posts since May 29. I assume they normally schedule most of the posts ahead of time (thus allowing them to post anything every day, whether they are on that day or not), so the lack of posts since then seems mystifying, to say the least.

I dunno. I do know that they have an e-mail address if you have a request.

Apparently, there is truth that some of the titles that are streaming on HBO Max now (or will stream on the platform) are getting Blu-ray releases. Million Dollar Mermaid (1952), Girl Crazy (1943), Pride and Prejudice (1940) all announced today.

Million Dollar Mermaid is a 4K scan from the original negative. Should look amazing. The DVD has color separation issues.

According to a user on the Blu-Ray forum, the latest Warner Archive podcast contains some info about certain films (particularly Greed):

Guns for San Sebastian - original elements are in poor shape and require a lot of work, but it's in the queue. They had hoped to start working on it and release it this year, but due to what's going on it will probably be next year now, though they make no promises.

Greed - they will not be releasing the reconstruction that gets shown on TCM from time to time since it's only SD, but they hope to have good news to report on Greed sometime in the future

Seven Sinners (silent) - not a lost film, they have a nice print of it, but it's missing beginning and ending credits and they have no music for it. They have scanned the print for preservation purposes, but have no plans for it at this time.

Seven Faces of Dr. Lao - there are no issues with this film, but they have no plans for a blu-ray release at this time.

The Fixer - clearance issues

Also, the Archive has announced 4K restorations of Pat and Mike and Without Love, though I’m kinda surprised they also didn’t announce Adam’s Rib as far as the Tracy-Hepburn films are concerned.

I'm sure individual threads will be created, but these two titles have also been announced:

1592353248025.png

NEW 2020 1080p master from 4K scan of original camera negative!
PAT AND MIKE (1952)
Run Time 95:00
Subtitles English SDH
Audio Specs DTS HD-Master Audio 2.0 - English, MONO - English
Aspect Ratio 1.37:1, 4X3 FULL FRAME
Product Color BLACK & WHITE

The sun will sneak by a rooster before sports promoter Mike Conovan (Spencer Tracy) lets opportunity pass him by. So the first time he sees genteel Pat Pemberton (Katharine Hepburn) swing a five-iron, he decides to ink her to a pro contract. “Not much meat on her ,” Mike later says, “but what’s there is cherce.” For this chercest of romantic comedies, George Cukor directs, Ruth Gordon and Garson Kanin provide the Oscar®-nominated screenplay, and a deft cast plays various Damon Runyonesque types, including Aldo Ray as a dim-bulb palooka and Charles (Bronson) Buchinski as a tough guy who finds Pat tougher. Sports stars of the day (like Babe Didrikson Zaharias and Gussie Moran) add to the Jocks-and-Jills fun. Let the games begin!

Special Feature: Theatrical Trailer (HD), Animated Teaser Trailer (SD)

NEW 2020 1080p master from 4K scan of best surviving archival elements!
WITHOUT LOVE (1945)
Run Time 110:00
Subtitles English SDH
Audio Specs DTS HD-Master Audio 2.0 - English, MONO - English
Aspect Ratio 1.37:1; 4X3 FULL FRAME
Product Color BLACK & WHITE
Disc Configuration BD 50

Every rental is rented, every sublet is let in crowded Washington, D.C. So Jamie Rowan does her part for the wartime lodging crunch by sharing her home with military inventor Pat Jamieson. There are a few conditions, natch. First, for appearances, they must get married. Second, there’s plenty of room for each other...but no room for love. Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn team for the third time in Without Love, played for laughs and, above all, with love. Donald Ogden Stewart adapts Philip Barry’s play (five years earlier, both helped shape Hepburn’s comeback movie, The Philadelphia Story).

Special Features: Vintage Crime Does Not Pay short "Purity Squad"; Classic Cartoon "Swing Shift Cinderella; Theatrical Trailer (HD)

Yup, the announcement threads are up after I took my evening siesta. A total of seven movies had BD announcements today.

Nothing for me this month, but I still enjoy their announcements, which I guess are done until August. I would guess there is some reason they did a double month
Oh how I wish movies like Stranger on the Third Floor, Lady in the Lady, The Bermuda Depths, The Last Dinosaur, In this Our Life, The Old Maid, The Damned Dont Cry, The Lusty Men, Attack of the 50 Ft. Woman, Fury, Blackboard Jungle and about 100 others I have on DVD would get Blu'd

They also announced an animated series for July so I'm pretty sure the last two are August.

Wonderful spate of stuff coming down the pike. About time to see an Esther Williams movie hit hi-def. There are really only 3 I would love to see on Blu from Esther - Million Dollar Mermaid, Easy to Love and Bathing Beauty. Let's hope we get a few more marvels coming down the pike: National Velvet - pretty please, and Random Harvest, The Student Prince, Dinner at Eight, The Great Ziegfeld, Goodbye Mr. Chips (1939) to start. I know. I know. Be grateful for what's been coming down the pike. Believe me, with catalog like Pat and Mike, Mermaid, Pride and Prejudice (an absolute favorite of mine), I simply CANNOT wait for summer to get here! Woo-hoo, and thank you!
