Which way to face Subwoofer? (1 Viewer)

I am looking into building my own subwoofer. What I am wondering is what are the pros and cons of a downfiring subwoofer and a subwoofer firing out the side of the cabinet? I just am wondering what applications each is good for. Thanks

Sound wise it matters little if at all. I turned my downfiring sono on its side to make it "front firing"- made little difference. Some drivers cannot be mounted in a down or up firing position.
