the one disc widescreen or the 5star widescreen. is the one disc anamorphic, is the original ending in it, and does the five star have any intresting featuretts or documentaries on the special effects

The transfer is the same, Ryan. If you like this movie, the choice is yours: do you want a ton of extras? Then get the SE. If not, save money by getting the standard edition. Simple as that. (Note: the SE is being phased out.)

what kind of extras are on the five star. if it is just games and triva, i will go for the one disc, but if there are nice featuretts or documentaries in it , count me in on the five star

Though I own a copy of this, it was provided free courtesy of the studio. I haven't even played the second disc--but I saw some of the features at a Fox screening. Among them is a faux documentary about aliens having already landed. Then there are the usual alternate endings and such.

Again, it seems to me your choice is simple: if you love this wrecking ball of a popcorn movie that much, get the SE while it's still available.

    You get three documentaries:

ID4 Invasion - Originally aired on the Fox network

HBo First Look: ID4 - Hosted by Jeff Goldblum and a "unique" look at the making of ID4

Creating Reality - Documentary from the special edition laserdisc release

You also get the "bi-plane" ending, still gallery, trailers & TV spots, Superbowl spot, and the best features...

An easter egg that leads to three other added-value materials:

About an hour's worth of the "faux" news coverage.

    A sound breakdown interactive featurette

    Clips from the dogfights

Go out and grab that 5-Star version now. It's a great set. If you love this popcorn flick, you will do yourself a huge disservice if you pass this one by.

Gotta get the 5 Star Edition. Well worth the extra 7 bucks. While you're getting ID4 5 Star, I would recommend that you pick up the other 5 Star titles out.

    I have a BIG QUESTION:
I just got the 5 star version from Costco (the last copy) and when I started watching the Special Edition version the picture was pixelating and jumping all over the place. Can somebody please help find a way I can contact Fox and get a new copy. Thanks for any info.

check the bottem of the disc, if it is dirty, go out and buy a dvd repair kit called dvd doctor. it is around $30 but it is much better than going through all of the hassel.

i think it is just like if you just bought the five star version just with one disc. in other words 2 movie versions, and commentary.

I just bought the one-disc ID4 this weekend (seemed to be in a line of other low-priced DVD's from Fox), without knowing there were TWO versions of it available (which I only found out about after going to www.independencedaydvd.com where I saw no mention of a one-disc version [IMG]).
I'm getting really tired of all these different versions of some movies that are floating around out there. I'm a reasonably well-informed customer when it comes to DVD, but I made a mistake this time. Anyone else getting tired of stuff like this?
I was afraid that the SE version had a better transfer too, but that doesn't seem to be the case from the comments here, phew.
No biggie, but annoying still, since I like the movie a lot it would have been nice to get the extra material. Anyone own the 2-disc version and would like to trade it for a 1-disc version? [IMG]
    /Mike
