Specifically, I'm looking at the 43 inch HDTV ready model and its larger siblings - will these sets only do the squeeze with a 1080i signal input, or can they squeeze an anamorphic image from a standard (non-progressive) DVD player? If they can't, do ANY of the 4:3 Tosh RPTV's (HDTV ready or not) offer a 16:9 mode to take advantage of anamorphic discs?

None do ... but!!
With a HTPC, you can feed the TV the DVD signal scaled to 540P and you will get your squeeze.

Hmmmm, well do any of them do the squeeze with a progressive DVD signal input (non-HDTV?) I supposed I *could* upgrade to a progressive scan player and dish my Tosh changer off to my dad...

Only HDTV type signals like 1080i and 540P will activate the squeeze mode on the set.
480P will not. And of course there are no real players out there that output 540P either. (Yet)
