Ok, I started down the DIY sub road last week. I'm on a $200 budget so it will be tough, but I know you guys can help. I picked up a PE #300-800 150 watt plate amp cheap so now all I need is a sub. Box will be similar to Chris's Frustum Pyramid Tempest: http://www.angelfire.com/sports/RCcars/protosub.html/
I wanted to go tempest but will got over budget. I started shopping arround for others. I found this one "XXX" brand new that I can get pretty cheap & I have heard good things about it. I am not that good with stats so tell me what you guys think:

First of all, the XXX driver looks to be set up for car audio use. I don't think your amp will be able to drive a 2 ohm load. That and a high Fs makes for a sub-standard HT driver. ;)
You won't be dissappointed with the extra outlay of cash for the Tempest. :D

Pete,

That's a single VC, not dual.

And I agree. Either get the Tempest or the Parts Express DVC 15" sub. I just finished a DVC 15" subwoofer today for a customer and I am thoroughly impressed! It's 175L tuned to 17.5Hz with the PE 250W plate amp and the 4" flared port. I was hitting 111dB on the "Coming Mother" scene from "The Haunting" from around 6' away and didn't have the sub anywhere near maxed out.

I just checked and it is a 4 ohm DVC woofer. I guess wouldn't be good to power just one of the coils to meet a 4 ohm load. I really should get something that goes lower than 30hz, dauh......

Jeff; Are you married? :) You know where that is going. WAF!!!
Jim; $100 hell yah. Wow those look gooooood but, when are they shipping:frowning:?
Thomas; I know.....What was I thinking. I did see an 18" for the same price as the tempest that went to 26hz but that is still a little high.
