Alright, I'm home for spring break now...but when I get back I'm finally going to get around to calibrating my sheeit. I've got Avia, now I just need to pick up an SPL Meter. My first guess would be to hit Radio Shack...but what exactly am I looking...at what cost.

Also I've heard mention of placing them on a tri-pod...where would I find one, and also...at what cost.

Thx guys for all the help...

    HEllo Matt,

I don't have the model # at hand but all you need to do is ask the guy at Rat Shack for the ANALOG Sound Meter. You don't want the DIGITAL. The analog has better and more useful reading sensitivity. The directions are quite complete and self-explanatory.

I use my photo tripod once in a blue moon. You can find the most inexpensive one at Ritz Camera or similar stores for $25 bucks or so...or buy one used. It helps with ridding your readings of reflections but IT IS kind of anal.

    Okay...found the price.

One other question, will Avia or VE tell me what read-outs I should be trying to achieve?

Yup. They'll walk you through the whole process as well. I've got Avia, simply because it was available. From what I understand Video Essentials is just as good.

You're tellin' me man. Some people in Lafayette are calling for Keady's job. It was painfull...I especially liked the Illinois game when we were up 18 in the second half and lost...quality play...hehe.

I didn't realize that it was on sale...are you sure? I'll go tomorrow.

    Thanx so much!

There is also a thread going in the "Coupons and Bargains" Forum. I guess it is 29.95 or so.. the sale price. It seems like a nationwide sale.
There is always next year....Go Boilers!! [IMG]

    John,

It's not worse at all. It's just not as easy to use.

    Hi Paul Clarke,

Do you actually have data that shows the analog has better sensitivity? I have not seen any data that supports this but would be interested in seeing acuracy data. Just because the analog has a needle that reads between 1 db increments doesn't mean it is more acurate. I happen to like the digital meter and its peak reading memory might have the potentional to respond faster than a needle can. So I would be curious as to where you get your info.
