I'm on the market for a low-cost active subwoofer for use with my Yamaha HTR-2071 AV receiver (owner's manual | quick start guide).

I believe these are my options:

Yamaha YST-FSW050 (link)
6.5" driver, "100W", 35-160 Hz, £95

Fenton / Skytronic SHFS08B (link)
8" driver, "200W", 20-200 Hz, £103

Yamaha NS-SW050 (link)
8" driver, "100W", 28-200 Hz, £110

Pioneer S-21W (link)
6.5" driver, 100W RMS / 160W peak, 33-700 Hz, £120

I know none of them are anything special but I'm sure they're more than enough for me (and my neighbours!).

Does anyone have any thoughts on any of them?

I’d go with the Yamaha NS, since it has the lowest extension spec (you can ignore the Fenton specs – no way an 8” driver gets down to 20 Hz at that price).

If you are in an apartment sharing walls with neighbors, the Yamaha YST or Pioneer might be a better option since they don’t get down as low.
