THis is for a friend and since I don't know about inwalls I need some to choose from. These need to be low-mid end as cost is a factor. They will be used for mostly ambiance and not blasting music.

The general consensus is that in-wall speakers do not produce very good sound so most of us avoid them, even for the less-critical rear speakers in a HT setup.
But a company called "Home Theater Direct" is getting a reputation for producing some very good HT speakers for a budget price. They also sell a line of in-wall speakers.

There are many audiophile grade in-walls available today. Many are very expensive and they produce excellent sound.
I personally have a pair of B&W in-walls for my rear surrounds and they kick ass!
And who actually beleives that rear speakers are less critical.
Just avoid the cheap stuff (like those available from Radio Shack).

Like I said this isn't for me as I wouldn't be using them but more for an ambiance from room to room in a friends house. He doesn't want speakers everywhere so in walls were the answer. They don't have to play loud or be very clean just something for the ambiance. Budget is important here. I will look into hometheaterdirect.

Well, that's a hourse of another color! The Radio Shack in-walls (they have 2 or 3 models) are fine for this purpose. For background music, they are just fine. They often go on sale 2 or 3 time a year.
