I have certain favorite films that I consider EPIC to me. Mine are:
    Titanic
    Armageddon
    Braveheart
    Gladiator
    Lawrence of Arabia
    2001: A Space Odyssey
    Cast Away
    Contact
    Deep Impact
These do not necessarily reflect my very favorite movies but are EPIC adventures for me.
I'll try to explain my definition of EPIC: Long, involving, emotional, stories of human spirit, movies that really make you think and stuff like that.
Before you attack me on my choice for Armageddon(which DOES happen to be 1 of my top 10 favorites)let me just say that not only is it a great adventure/popcorn flick, in my eyes it meets my criteria for being EPIC, it's funny, scary, uplifting, adventurous, involving, heroic, and sad.
Yes I never fail to shed a tear at the end of this great movie. And besides, it could happen[IMG]
There are probably more that I just can't think of right now, if you guys/gals list something I think is EPIC, I'll chime in and let you know, so I can add it to my list.

I love Mission to Mars and the Green Mile, but they just didn't meet my criteria for being EPIC.

BTTF and Real Genius are probably my very favorite movies, but do not meet my criteria for EPIC.

Well, aside from the obvious choices:
The General: B&W, not widescreen, silent and a comedy. Yet it manages to be one of the most "epic" depictions of the civil war era ever put to film.
Berlin Alexanderplatz: You either know it or you don't. Fassbinders 15.5 hour masterpiece can't even be described in words.
