Which DVD drive in XBox for Morrowind? (1 Viewer)

This question is hardware related, but it's also software related. I thought it would get more notice here, so... Does anyone know how to determine what DVD drive an XBox contains? I've heard that Morrowind: GOTY edition won't run properly on Thompson drives. I wanted to determine which drive I have. Mine was manufactured in Feb. 2002, if that helps anything. Thanks!

Everything I've read attributes the problem to software issues, not hardware.

The Thompson is a BAD one. I have a 1st run xbox with a Thompson drive. It died after I played Knights of the Old Republic. I haven't used my xbox very much before, so I suspect that the Thompson as an MTBF of 100 or 200 hours. Grrr.

I bought another xbox (manufactured in June 2003) and swapped the new Samsung drive with the broken down piece of garbage one.
