I just got a DTS decoding reciver and I'm wondering what DTS discs I should buy.

Are stand alone discs like Saving Private Ryan or Jurassic Park worth re-buying if I already have the DD?

So come on all you DTS supporters what are the DTS titles you just can't live without?:)

Greetings Mark,
My personal opinion on rebuying discs solely for the dts soundtrack is to do so only if you can find them for a significantly low price. Dolby Digital can be fantastic and more than worthy.

Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring (extended)
Blade II
Se7en: Platinum Edition
2-disc
Fast and the Furious
Osamu Tezuka's Metropolis
Fatboy Slim Live at Brighton Beach: Big Beach Boutique II
Terminator II: Ultimate Edition
Akira
(newly released Japanese dts edition)

I rebought Jurassic Park 1&2, among several others, and I sold my DD versions. Here are a "few" must-haves:

Jurassic Park (1509.5 bitrate)
Jurassic Park 2 (1509.5)
Apollo 13 (1509.5)
The Haunting
Antz (1509.5)
The Prince of Egypt (1509.5)
Dances With Wolves (OOP 1509.5)
Galaxy Quest (1509.5)
The Gladiator
U-571
LOTR Platinum Ed. (as Andrew already mentioned)
Saving Private Ryan

The Fifth Element Superbit has a phenomenal DTS track. Many of the movies previously listed are also fantastic.

X-Men 1.5

Never was impressed by the movie, then I watched it in DTS. It has now become one of my demo DVD's.

Actually both of these titles are the half rate 768kbs dts tracks.

Saving Private Ryan is worth upgrading to. But one reason it is better than the DD version is because a more dynamic mix was used for the dts disc.

Some DVD players and processors can display the bit-rates of soundtracks they play. If yours doesn't, then you can see a list of DTS bit-rates here.

You can view a list of international releases Link Removed.

Saving Private Ryan and Jurassic Park are significant upgrades over the Dolby Digital versions. Even if you already have them in DD, I recommend picking them in DTS....you'll be blown away! Most of the other titles mentioned in this thread are great as well. Personally, I really like:

Gladiator
Terminator 2: Ultimate Edition
Fast and the Furious
Lord of the Rings: Extended Edition
U-571
Blade II
XXX: SuperBit
The Patriot: SuperBit

The best of all may be the DTS-ES version of The Haunting.....if you can sit through the horrible movie to enjoy the great soundtrack.

Thanks alot guys. Some of these disks I already had but didn't know they had DTS tracks like U-571 and Band of Brothers. I'll definately be rebuying Saving Private Ryan and probably the first 2 Jurassic Park films as well.

Again thanks a lot you've all been very helpful.:)

I'd buy the movies that you like. Buying a disc based on this alone will make you regret it down the road. At least it did for me. I guess some people will sit through a movie they hate even though it has good sound.

Adam Barratt,

Thanks for the link. My Panny CP72 will show bitrates but I just never thought to use it. :)
