I think I am going to get a player, but Im not sure which one to get. I did a search, and did not come up with much. It seems that a JVC between $1000 and $2000 is the way to go. I have heard that the Mitsubishis will not play back pre-recorded titles.

Are there any options that you give up by goint with a less expensive machine? Do any have DTS? WHich one would you buy?

The only player with D-theater capability is from JVC. If thats what you want- then there is no other choice. DTS is supposedly part of the format in the future.

Cheers

But are there several JVC models? I guess the 30000 is the one to get....

The 30k is the only model currently available. Two more are due to be released this fall at a reduced price. The 30k is available online for around $1200.

Be advised that the 30K doesn't support DTS via its optical output, only Dolby Digital. Some have said that there might be a firmware upgrade in the future for DTS, but who knows. The slight possibility that DTS will be supported in the upcoming decks is the main reason I'm holding off until Fall for my purchase. That and the likely price drop.

I'm sorry, but I just don't see how you could put that kind of money into something that won't be around very long! That's just my opinion though, that and I don't wanna rewind when I'm done with a movie  Plus the tape will degrade just like the old school vhs tapes over time!

Any word on the street price for the units coming out this fall? At $500, I'll bite...just to finally see 1080i material on my HD.
