Okay, so here's the story thus far.

I am looking for an LCD tv, budget around 1000-1500$, somthing that will match up well with my PS3 I'm getting (when the 160gb version comes out at the end of the month) which I plan on using as a HTPC.

I was debating about how necessary having 120hz refresh rate is, given than there really isn't anything that runs at 120hz. I think I'd be better off just focusing on a TV with a fast response time of anything under 5ms.

I really doubt I'll have any HD source other than the PS3 hooked up to the tv either. (Basically just blu-ray, Ps3 games and linux.)

Just figured i'd ask which brands to stay away from and if anyone has any suggestions for me. Right now the LG's and Samsungs in the 46-52" range are my choices so far. Lemme know so I can watch the sales and hopefully get somthing in the next couple weeks.
Thanks again!

(Oh also.. are the extended warranties something that everyone generally would recommend? I've never had a problem with any other LCD monitor or projector i've ever owned. )

I absolutely love my Samsung LN40A550. The finish on it matches the PS3, too.

Picked mine up online for 1300 in... September I think it was.

The Samsung 650 series are nice LCD's. One of the few displays that offer full color management system adjustments.

There are too many bad brands out there, or mediocre brands with limited or no warranties. Instead of a list of what brands to stay away from, here's a list of brands to check out:

Panasonic, Toshiba, Sony, Hitachi, Westinghouse, Pioneer (if they make an LCD model) and Samsung. There are also Sharp Aquos which I have never dealt with and LG who others will recommend but with which I have had bad quality problems.
