I plan on buying 2 or 3 used DVD players in the $100 range. Which brands should I NOT buy. I've noticed that Toshiba seems to have a lot of problems and I want to steer away from the $80 - $100 NEW brands

DO NOT BUY any use Panasonc A110 or A310 models. They are doomed to failure.

The Denon 2500, 3000, and 5000 have the same generally defective optics as the Panasonics that Phillip mentioned. Avoid the Pioneer DV-500 too. Best wishes!

The Sony 360s appear to be ticking time bombs, too, judging from reports on audioreview.com.

Also JVC 501BK/701BK. Flee in the other direction unless you like seeing 'no disc' from now through eternity.
