Buy the Anchor Bay THX versions of Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness, and wait for the upcoming Evil Dead THX early next year...

This comes up often, here's some info which should fill you in on the various versions of each Evil Dead DVD (you could do a search):
    http://www.hometheaterforum.com/uub/Forum15/HTML/031937.html
And the Directors cut Anchor Bay release.
These 2 Anchor Bay discs, (the theatrical and the directors cut) were released TOGETHER in a 2 disc LE box set that sells for a billion dollars on Ebay.
The Directors cut has been released, by itself, as a single disc by anchor bay with 2 different packages: the original "conan" cover and the new "official bootleg edition" cover- they are the same DVDs.
So there are really 3 versions- and only 2 if you discount the original universal release and talk only of the AB discs.
And those 2 versions have just been packaged 4 different ways:
    Theatrical Single Disc,
    Directors Cut Single Disc,
Repackaged "official bootleg" directos cut Single disc
2 disc LE, containing the directors and theatrical
The best version, picture wise- is the Theatrical AB disc. THe Director's Cut is lower quality- from a tape source. I would suggest, if you're a big fan, buy them both and you have everything available! I think the Directors Cut bootleg edition is like $12!

    Vince, thanks for the info!
So, is the content of the upcoming "Bootleg" edition exactly the same as the Limited Edition 2-disc set?

As far as I've read, the "Bootleg Edition" is the same as the Directors Cut disc that came in the LE, and is the same Directors Cut disc that came in the Directors Cut version from earlier in the year.
So, basically yes. To be clear: The LE also contained the "Theatrical" disc which is not included in "Bootleg edition"- but the 2nd disc of the LE is the same one you're getting as the "Bootleg" edition. If you buy the Bootleg and the Theatrical, you have the same content as the LE.
