I don't know if anyone else here has experienced this, but I had an optical cable just die.
I watched half of a movie, and then turned the whole system off. A few days later, I turned it all back on to watch the second half and had no sound. I checked the cable - red light was coming through. I used the same cable with two other devices (satellite and CD), and still no sound. I feared that the optical inputs on my receiver (Sony 333ES)died. So, I bought a new cable, and now it all works fine.
Weird. How can an optical cable just die? I didn't move it.
