Any plans on releasing this gem???
Heard any rumors?
Last year's rumor is sometime this year. We'll see.
Part of the Rumor was that Fox was going to do it "right". I hope that means they learned their lesson with the sub-par transfer (grain, print damage, and ringing galore) of Sound Of Music.
If they can do something with Hello Dolly just *close* to what Columbia did with Funny Girl we'll be in for a treat.
What's puzzling is that R4 (Australia) is getting this and All That Jazz in April from Fox, but there's been no announcement for R1 yet. Sometime this year, I hope...
Did anyone else catch any of the horrible Pan and Scan print shown on American Movie Classics this morning?
I watched about 3 minutes and turned it off...here's hoping for a great DVD...and SOON!
How about a commentary track with Streisand.
You might have better luck channeling Walter Matthau and director Gene Kelly. Still, Tommy Tune and a few others are still available.
On one of the recent American Movie Classic "Screen Test" Specials, they ran a number of tests for some of the DOLLY roles.
They could be great extras.
The screen tests are appearing on the Fox Screen test DVD released by Image Entertainment. Fox representive said "Hello, Dolly!" doesn't sell well, but I would think it sells better than "Carmen Jones" or "State Fair". The last laserdisc featured a beautiful transfer. It would be nice if FOX could use the Todd-AO print for the DVD. (Forget about comentaries on this one)
I fear the Region 1 release will be a mirror of the Australian region 4 release, which is BARE BONES.
4 channel Dolby Digital, plus,
Extras= a Trailer.
Not even sure if it features the Intermission and Exit music.( I don't think it had an Overture as such)
I will not buy the region 4 edition because of the awful Pal Speedup.
Let's hope that the region 1 version of Dolly, when it arrives, is a special Edition.
how can I get a hold of this screen-test dvd?
As much as I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to have a Special Edition DVD of Hello Dolly (My all time favorite musical) w/ the intermission, etc., I would be happy if it would just be released on DVD at all! I do remember them saying something about a release this year, but haven't heard more than that. I'm still waiting...
