since i'm considering the 950 which doesn't have a headphone output i need to find a headphone amp. i've seen models from creek and musical fidelity ranging from $200-$400. however, the only time i use headphones is for late night television / movie watching where i'm not particularly concerned about quality per se but rather keeping the noise down so the s.o. can sleep. can anyone recommend a headphone amp that's not utter crap in the sub $100 price range?

From my looking, no such thing. There was the HeadRoom AirHead which was priced at $100, but it would only run off of batteries. Now the cheapest HeadRoom lists is the Total AirHead at $160USD.

The cheapest other option I've heard of is the Meier Audio Porta Corda. Also $160USD. However this one is supposed to have a decent crosstalk circuit and you don't have to run it from batteries.

The only other option I'm aware of is this. What follows is a quote from John Morris's reply to one of my earlier threads on this topic.

If you don't mind the "pro" look, check out the Behringer PowerPlay Pro headphone distribution amp. It has 3 headphone outputs, and it sounds great! (I don't own it, but I use it on a regular basis for mixing music, etc.)
Certainly better than something like that Sennheiser unit.

I would suggest the Creek OBH-11, It is a very neutral amp. For more info check out the forums at Head-Fi.
