Where is FUNNY GIRL in 4K ? (1 Viewer)

Right now its in 4K on Prime Video looking great.[missing the intermission and overture for some reason] A number of months back I had read that a restoration was being done by Sony. Wondering what ever happened to that. Maybe it will be part of a Sony Classic box set.

I'd love to see this released in 4k on the 3rd volume or just as an individual release even. It's probably one of the most well known musicals Columbia made so hopefully it can happen

I think the blu-ray is perfection. I didn't realize it was in any particular need of restoration. But I don't know if they mastered that blu in 2K and want a 4K version to future proof it.

Funny Girl has been available through the now abandoned (thank you Sony) 4K Unlimited service long ago and ever since then in one form of 4K streaming or another. For some reason Sony seems to be reluctant to release this in 4k UHD but it would only be a matter of going.

In the meantime it is available in UHD Blu-ray equivalent quality on Kaleidescape:

For some reason they have never given it a boffo home video release with bells and whistles such including the complete "The Swan" musical number or Anne Francis's cut scenes as extras. On home video its always been barebones with the only extra a1968 promo short about the fashions used in the film and maybe another short. The film is the most important, of course, not extras and I am grateful the film exists in great shape.

The film looks superb on bluray and being that it was filmed in Panavision rather than 70MM is the streaming 4k a noticeable improvement?
One of the films I most would have liked to have seen roadshow at the Criterion but a bit too young.

I watched a bit of the version that was available through the 4K unlimited service at the time and was not that impressed.
Funny Girl in 4K has to fight against the combined disadvantage that it was shot mostly at night and inside an that it already has a very good Blu-ray and back then I decided not to buy the 4K version.

Here is the shortened version of "Don't Rain On My Parade" from the original Broadway version of "Funny Girl" sung by Mini Hines who replaced Streisand in the role. Streisand performed a shortened version of the show during her run, some say for matinées. This is the version of the song used for the shortened version.



Here are short clips of rehearsals for the new revival of "Funny Girl" opening April 24th .



Lastly some clips of "Funny Girl" on Broadway with Streisond. I assume these are silent 8 mm film with sound from the same or an alternate performance.
