Any place that consistently has good prices on all DVD's, or do you really have to shop around for the specific DVD you are looking for?

Deep Discount DVD. As long as you don't mind the wait for their free first class mail to get the dvd to your house, they're usually the cheapest. They also offer faster shipping, but that'll increase the cost. Check DVD Priceseach and you'll see they're usually at the top of the list.

Shop around. Click on the Weekly Roundup icon in my signature and it will take you to the HTF's section for Coupons and Bargains. Each week there I post a "Weekly Roundup" of the new releases (well, those among them I fell like doing...usually everything I want plus the hottest titles which I don't happen to want) and what the B&M prices will be during the first week.
I post it on Sundays for the list of items that street the following Tuesday. Overall, I usually see the best prices at Best Buy, with Circuit City beating them on occassion.
If you are a member of Costco and/or Sam's, you get good bargains there, but often the BB or CC loss leaders will beat them out...at least for the Tue-Sat of the first week of release. [IMG]
Those four and Amazon (just to use as a baseline...for other e-tailers check sites like DVDPRICESEARCH.COM) are the ones I always list. I've also added Borders from time to time, but I think they're going away from the Roundup (see the latest Roundup for details on why). In the bullet points underneath the grid I include bargains at places like Target, K-Mart, Wal-Mart, and CompUSA.
But usually BB or CC get most of my money. No, noone gives me kickbacks to say that! [IMG]

I usually pick up all the new releases at BB or CC, but mostly BB. They tend to have great deals, such as the one for Pulp Fiction and Jackie Brown.

I prefer to shop online for convenience. Prices are usually very close to the best B&M sale prices (sometimes a little lower, sometimes a little higher). DVD Empire and DeepDiscountDVD get most of my business. I have found some great deals on multi-disc collections at DVDSoon and Playcentric, though. The downside of the latter two etailers is that they charge your credit card upon receiving the order, not when the order ships. However, at their cost savings I am willing to pay up front (pre-orders for Star Trek: Next Generation sets are about $80 shipped at Playcentric, for example).

I buy 99% of my R1 DVDs online. DVDEmpire gets 90% plus of those online R1 purchases. I use several online companies for purchases that are not R1.
    • EzyDVD R4
      Atlantic DVD R4
      BlackStar R2
      Amazon.uk R2
      CD Japan R2
      Diabolik DVD R2, R4, R3
All of these companies have provided me with great service.

Usually online @ DVD Empire or Amazon. Though I also buy from Hastings, Wal*Mart SuperCenter, Sam's Club and Target when I'm in town. (Used to buy from Super K-Mart Center, too, but it closed at the beginning of summer 2002.)

99% of the time I use Play.com for both R1 and R2, but for R1 stuff that play.com doesn't have I use dv-depot.com (infrequently to be sure as play.com does free shipping to UK and takes Switch).

HMV and Virgin have been having 2-for-1 deals on a large range of titles lately, and I do the odd impulse buy (very rare as online purchases offer significant savings often) like Phantom Menace last December (couldn't be bothered about saving a couple of quid).

I buy from Digital Eyes. I've been using them for years and they've consistently given me excellent service. Discounts are usually around 30% off with some even cheaper. Plus, their frequent buying program can give you an additional 4% off everything.

I buy most of my DVD's at my local Wal*Mart (where I also happen to work). Wal*Mart is supposed to have the lowest price on new releases, and will match any comp. ad. I use Mr. Lambert's EXCELLENT weekly roundup as a guide. If we don't get in a movie in widescreen or a older title I'll pick it up at my local Best Buy.
Thanks again Mr. Lambert for guide I check every Sunday, and you have saved me some serious cash [IMG]

I import my 100 discs a month from DVD Pacific.

Personal service is what I get.

I use Mr. Lamberts' incredible weekly service here as a guide. (Great job, David!!)

I still purchase quite a few DVDs' from Suncoast (I own a REPLAY card; and for the first week of distribution of a new title Suncoast prices are "very close" to Best Buy's, which is not all that surprising since Best Buy now owns Suncoast.)

But if I notice a wide disparity in prices on Mr. Lamberts' guide, then I'll order from there instead.

BTW, I've noticed that the price reductions on past releases that David lists on his weekly roundups are religiously adhered to by Suncoast.

Lately, Amazon has had the best bargains around since they have free shipping over $25 and charge no sales tax. If you join the "Share the Love" club at DVD talk, you will receive 10% off every purchase in addition to using one of the numerous $5 off coupons that are floating around.
For instance, most recently, I've gotten:
-Sopranos Season 3 for $53.49 shipped
-One flew Over the Cuckoos Nest and Swingers (both 2-disk special editions) for a total of $26 shipped
    -24 Season 1 for $35 shipped
-Back to the Future for $32 shipped
No other online or B+M can hold a candle to those prices! [IMG] [IMG]

As a Canadian, none of these stores really apply to me. However, if I may help out my fellow (western) Canadians and, specifically, Winnipeggers, then so be it.

As a rule, the best selection generally goes to Future Shop, with A&B being the next best...Price wise, A&B generally beats FS hands down (in fact, my local Future Shop will no longer price match/beat A&B, due to "problems between the two stores"). Best prices I've found in town, however, go to Real Canadian Superstore. On any and all new releases, they will easily beat both stores by 20 cents to 4 or 5 bucks (case in point: House of Villains: 21.00 CDN at Future Shop, 20.79 at A&B, $18.99 at Superstore...also picked up T2 for $25.99 when it was released, when it was going for $30+ at the other two stores).

And for those of you (me and, what, one or two more, tops?) Winnipeggers who need a good deal, there's Planet of Sound on Henderson Hwy...ROTLD and The Fog, made a deal for $29 CDN for both. He's a good guy, easy to deal with, and loves to haggle as much as I do. YMMV.

I buy most of mine from excaliburfilms.com. Although it is mainly a site for porn, they have some of the best deals I've seen on standard DVD's.

Either from 2 local wholesalers, or from Future Shop. Best Buy has not seen my money yet.
