I have the following drives installed in my computer:

    A: Floppy Drive

    C: Hard Drive

    D: CD-RW

    E: DVD

    F: Camera Memory Card Reader

Under XP Home Edition when I click on My Computer I see an additional drive labeled G: CD Drive. When I double click on the icon it says 'Please Insert a Disk Into Drive G:'. Why is this mystery drive showing up?

Do you have a USB memory card reader connected to your computer?

Yes. It shows up as my F: drive.

If you right click on the G: drive, does Eject show up as an option? If it does, click it and see what opens up. I'll bet it's somehow mapped to either your CD or DVD drives.

Now, back to the question at hand. What shows up in your Device Manager? You don't happen to have SCSI CD drives do you?

Under Device Manager it says Nero Imagedrive SCSI CdRom Device. Huh? Should I remove this through device manager?

    Kevin,

No, don't remove it under Device Manager. It's installed with Nero, so that you can mount ISO disc images as normal CDs. I find it very useful with my laptop, which doesn't have an internal cd-drom drive. I make an image of a game cd, and then mount it when I want to play that game.

If you want to remove it, remove "ImageDrive (Ahead Software)" from the Add/Remove Programs control panel. You'll still be able to burn CDs with Nero just fine.

Or, you can download TweakUI from Microsoft and use it to "hide" the drive. It will still be a valid drive, just an unseen one.
