I saw that "Boondock Saints" was supposed to be released on DVD on 12/18/01 and was wondering where it went? It was never released and I haven't heard anything new about it! Has anyone received any information as to when if ever it will be on DVD for the USA?

It is coming out in May in anamorphic widescreen and DD5.1 with a Director's commentary. It will be priced at a low low MSRP of $15.

    Regards,

Yeah, just read that today, I'm quite looking forward to it. I currently have the barebones Col-Tristar release with DD2.0, nonanimorphic widescreen and no extras. So, I'm quite looking forward to this release. I just hope it gets released in Canada!

    Chris.

Whoa, I can't believe I missed this thread....I just watched it for the second time in two weeks on the regular DVD, and I can't wait to watch it again. Boondock Saints is an incredible film. Awareness needs to be raised about how awesome this flick is. What's so great about it? Everything. You'll just have to find out for yourself. I propose this,

Buy Boondock Saints in May 21st sight unseen, and if you are unsatisfied, I'll give you $100...well not really, but still...it's important that if you like cool movies with great lines, incredible scenes, and non-stop entertainment, then this is the movie for you.

I read that it lasted for two weeks at the box office in limited release (Boston, LA, NY). I can't believe there isn't more buzz about Boondock Saints. Okay, enough raving, mark your calendar.

Man,I just got a copy that I won on e-bay, and know your telling me that they are about to put a new and better copy out. Man that sucks for me. Good thing it is only going to be 15 bucks. I hate dishing out 20 or 25 dollars for a DVD I already have.

It's not like this is new news. The DVD has been planned for around 6 months.

A friend just got Boondock Saints today (about 20 minutes ago) [IMG] And the packaging has no mention of 5.1 sound or anamorphic enhancement, plus it says it's 2.35:1
Lets deal with these 3 issues
    1) 5.1 sound is present, verified
    2) Since anamorphic wasn't listed, he put the disc in his player and set it for 16:9 (on a 4:3 TV) and there was NO stretching, the switched the player back to 4:3 letterbox and the picture was exactly the same. This would indicate the title is NOT anamorphic! He checked this with BTiLC and it was definately anamorphic.
    3) Why is the movie 2.35:1 when the previous Canada release was 1.85:1 and IMDB lists it as 1.85:1, that just seems odd to me! Who is right, what is the directors intention?
Can anyone add more information to this?
    Chris.

Nope, he has the older Canada 2.0 release (I also have it) which is non-anamorphic. But he also just got the new Fox release.

Its pretty good, the deleted scenes are better than some I have seen packaged with other movies. I have yet to listen to the commentary track, but im hoping it doesnt suck. The 5.1 track is obvioulsy better than VHS but not amazing. I had the canadian version, but sold it on EBAY about 2 weeks ago. This version has new menus that dont spoil the entire movie.

My new Fox copy is not anamorphic. It is strange that a new Fox releases is not 16:9.

Same here... new Fox version, non-anamorphic. Seems really odd for Fox to put it out that way.

See This thread for Fox's reasons why this title isn't 16:9 enhanced.
Although I'm upset that it isn't, I can live with their explanation.
Just sucks that my 16:9 TV won't get the full resolution I was REALLY hoping for.
    Chris.

I think the transfer is really a shame. Luckily, I have a region free player so I ordered the anamorphic DVD from Japan.

I guess the DVD is so cheap because of the picture quality. I have lots of non-anamorphic import DVD's that look a lot better than this one. I actually have a VCD that looks better.

Supposedly, the Japanese version is much more explicit (NC-17, scenes of blood splattering in the hotel scene).
