I'm trying to see if it even exists anymore, maybe dvd? I know, I know, it's not the director's "vision", but hey I really liked the voice over of Harrison Ford in the movie. I do have the director's cut on vhs already...

You can't find it anywhere on DVD. The original 1982 cut might be one of the versions featured on the forthcoming (but as yet unannounced) special edition.

John, you won't find it on DVD unless Ridley Scott does come through with a multi-disc special edition with all versions in it.

I have the Criterion LD which has the original theatrical cut. Not for sale though.

It's been available on LD & VHS, but it was quite a while ago. The Dir. Cut is the only thing that's been available for quite some time in any format. The VHS & LD's do pop up on eBay from time to time, but usually aren't really cheap.

If the reports are true it will be on the new SE. I really like the "old" version. I liked the happy ending. One time after leaving the cinema that ending made me so happy I skipped all the way home with a big smile on my face.(just kidding).

I can't wait. It finally looks like we will finally get the definitive version. Pristine.

I sold my VHS copy a few years ago for decent money. I would hope it would be on a SE dvd.

The VHS copy that I have is the motified DC. Did you actually have a VHS copy that was of the original theatrical release with the voiceover?

The "directors cut" has been the only version available for about 10 years now.
Ironically, the only place to get Blade Runner in P&S is on DVD [IMG]

My VHS copy of the original is from 1992. It's says 10th anniversary edition. That was probably the last time the non dir. cut was available in the US.

As far as I can determine, the ONLY way to own the original 1982 theatrical release (wide release, that is - not the two infamous sneak previews) is a 1987 or earlier Embassy laserdisc (which I happen to own [IMG] ). It is P&S, but again, the only way to own the CONTENT of the original Blade Runner.
Many people think that the Criterion version is the original theatrical release - it is, but only for wide release in other parts of the world. The Criterion version is usually referred to as the "International Cut".
Finally, there is the "Director's Cut", which is the only version available on DVD. It was also released on LD.
    Regards,
    Sam
BTW - This was the FIRST DVD I purchased when I bought a player back in 1997 . . .
BTW No. 2 - The version released in 1992 as the "Director's Cut" is NOT the original theatrical release. If you are looking for the original theatrical release and don't mind paying Ebay prices, make SURE you ask for the "video code numbers" and manufacturer of the LD. It MUST be an "Embassy" release.

    Nope....

The original version has NEVER been released in any home gformat with the exception of the EMBASSY disc....

And believe it or not... the EMBASSY laserdisc was released by accident.... This laserdisc was to have the international version on it also...

I too found this disc after reading the BLADE RUNNER book published about the making of the film...

The only real drawback is that it is P&S, but hey.... what the hell...

Just because the criterion LD had a couple of censored scenes reinstated, doesn't mean it wasn't the original theatrical release. It's a hell of a lot closer to the 82 version than the so called "directors cut".

What difference does it make anyway. In a few months you will be able to own both the original and the all new TRUE directors cut. Looking better than any version previously available. Making all those expensive ebay LD's redundant
