Lots of your questions will be answered there.

Many readily available players can easily be made region free by pressing a few buttons on the remote. You really don't have to spend more than $50 to get a player which can handle PAL and be made region free, but better and more expensive models are out there.

Any feedback on a very good quality all region multi format player?

I'm thinking about the yamaha s550 or s5750. would like it to play divx, be black, and put out a really nice picture (480i).

I went to videohelp.com and it was a huge website with a lot of information. Unfortunately, I had no idea where to start. I looked around but does anybody know of any other places or at least tell me what I should type in the checkboxes for what Im looking for? I appreciate it!

I am looking for a new Multi Region player as well, i have a Daewoo 5800 right now but it's crapping out on me. I've heard Malatas are very good so I'm looking into those.

Anyone else have suggestions for the best MR players?

I researched & bought a Philips 642 that is EASILY (as in via remote-hack) made region free & more importantly does correct anamorphic on PAL-to NTSC...this player so far does EXACTLY what I need it to do & I'm glad i found it (it was pretty tough to find though...finally found it at Target for 70$

I also have the Philips 642 and it's a nice versatile DVD player, plus you have 90 days to test it out if you get it from Target.

The Philips model sounds good, but is there one that also handles SACD?

I'm considering going region-free for select titles, but there's one thing that concerns me:

Do any players do PAL to NTSC conversions that remove PAL speedup?

Don't quote me on this, but IIRC, the PAL speedup is done by the player, not inherent on the DVD itself unless it was some cheezy and/or bootleg transfer. So you just need a player that does good conversion from what I understand.
