Just wondering when we are due to hear about new Apple
products.

Let's get this Tablet announcement that has been in the
rumor mill for years out there.

Don't expect a new iPhone announcement till May or June.

Only rumors now, but Apple has allegedly reserved the Yerba Convention center for the week of January 26-28th and multiple dates have been suggested for then, mostly crystalizing on the 27th, which is unusual because we all know Apple likes to do these on Tuesdays (but not always, either)

If this doesnt come true the tech press will eat itself.

I still hold out weak hope that this is all just a big hoax in preparation for launching Apple BluRay support =p

Also, it should be pointed out that Macworld Expo IS on for 2010, Feb 12th to be precise, but Apple will NOT be participating. Should be a pretty big dud of a show.

I bet Apple moves to Light Peak and not USB3, just to mess with the competition =p

Given the continuing problems being reported on the 27" iMac video, if they haven't eliminated them completely by the time the MBPs get updated I might just move to an i5 MBP (upgrading my 3 1/2 year old 2.33GHz C2D MBP).

My boss just purchased a 27" iMac i7 with the upgraded video card. Display looked perfect to me.

Yeah I'm willing to bet the actual % of problems on the 27" iMac is indeed small (otherwise they would have to have a massive recall) but it's large enough of a problem that I don't want to risk it. I remember reading about heat problems with early generation MBPs and bought one figuring the percentages were with me...guess what? I got an overheating one. And didn't discover it until after the 30 day return was over.

Luckily I sold it on Craigslist for just a little under what I paid with my educational discount and bought a new one because they were updated shortly after I bought mine. I just don't want to go through the possible returns process hassle. Again, I won't be in the market until Feb or Mar (hopefully the new Mac Pros will be announced) and I'll take a gander to see if the latest builds of iMacs are coming out with no video issues, and then make my decision.

As always, I hope the new Mac's are slower and more expensive that what I currently own. Except the iPhones. They should be an order of magnitude better than the current devices and be free, with a pony. On Verizon. (Then after I buy two this summer, they can stagnate for a bit)

Livin' in an egocentric world... :)

AND the tablet might have a BIG focus on gaming? How un-apple!

Clearly one of the reasons Mac market share went down the tubes in the bad old days had to do with losing the gaming market to Windows (with the MS purchase of Bungie being the final nail in the coffin). I doubt that the lesson was lost on El Jobso, and with gaming apps being one area where the iPhone platform has a huge lead over the competition, they are no doubt hammering while the iron is hot.

People keep writing articles trying to determine if Apple will lose the phone war to Android the way it lost the OS war to Microsoft. The thing is, I'm pretty darn sure that Steve Jobs thinks that Apple hasn't lost to Microsoft -- the war is just getting started. SJ thinks that there is an inexorable move from heavy desktop computers to ever lighter portables. And so long as Apple rules the portable world, one day they will have won the great war against Microsoft, as desktop machines slide into oblivion.

The tablet is an important weapon in that war -- and that's one reason it will be running iPhone OS X 4.0 instead of Mac OS X 10.7 -- Apple sells far more iPhone OS devices than Macs.
