When is my sub actually in use?

I was just curious.... I am building a Tempest sub over the next 2-3 months and I am deciding on the configuration.

I was wondering.... during Digital (and DTS) movies, the subwoofer is being used, but when the input souce is a CD, is the subwoofer actually going to be used, or not?

I own an H/K AVR 125 if it matters.

    Thanks.

It depends on how you set up the receiver. You can have it set up to play the main speakers full range and have the sub on, or have the mains set to small with the sub on.
