An earlier thread got me thinking about the next step in the HT odyssey.

The sound is decent but not finished.

It's time to upgrade the video(36" direct view).

For me, a front projector, DLP or LCOS.

Then amplification, Pass X3 for LCR.

BAT VK-200 or Stratos for the sides.

The ML will be relegated to the rears(7.1).

    AVM-20 for the front end.

    Revel F30s for LCR.

I haven't figured out the DVD source yet.

    Any suggestions?

Plus, anyone using tubes in their system?

I love tube gear but it seems to be ignored in HT.

Maybe it's just me, but I spend more time then I should on this.

Since you asked here is the Mirkwood HT upgrade path:

    1st. Buy a Denon 3802 (tomarrow)

2nd. Buy an Outlaw 770 amp (in a couple months) and use the Denon as pre/pro

3rd. Upgrade from the Paradigm Monitor line to the Studio line (100's x 2, 20's x 4, Studio CC) in November

    4th. Buy a new house (1 year)

    5th. Buy Dual SVS Ultras

6tt. Buy a progressive scan DVD player

7th. Buy a DLP or LCD projector and screen (2-3 years)

8th. Buy whatever pre/pro is on the market that I like

I am trying to decide between adding two more B&W 602 S2 speakers for center surround speakers or upgrading my CD player to a Sony ES SACD carousel player for my next HT addition.

The next step for me would be buying a bigger house that is more 6.1 / 7.1 friendly. My current setup is extremely close to overkill in our current home and it is getting harder to convince my wife of our "need" to upgrade [IMG]

You answered your own question. Video. A killer front projector with scaler, good screen, room light control, HD source(s), ought to take care of your upgraditis for quite a while. Take a look over at AV Science. They can show you just how much top notch video will run you.

Just did the receiver upgrade (Onkyo 797, and VERY happy with it), so my next step is an SVS 25-31, either a CS (no amp included), or a PCi (flush-mount plate amp installed). Woo-hoo! Can't wait to get the bucks together...

Just got a tripod so I can finally do sound level measurements correctly. (Used to sit the meter on a vertically placed pillow, back up against my sofa.)

But I always knew that all those "surfaces" too close to the meter wasn't good...

I need to slow down a bit and actually enjoy my gear now. I just upgraded a ton with outboard amplification in two rooms and a Denon 5803 in one of those rooms. I also upgraded my 6th and 7th speakers in my front projection room. In the future, I will probably get a scaler.

    1) SVS 25-31PCi
    2) HDTV (haven't decided between 4:3 or 16:9 as of yet)
    3) New DVD player (again, not sure what model).
Can you tell me where you are getting your Pass Labs X3? And for how much? This amp really intrigues me.[IMG]

Win the Virginia Lottery and build a 300 seat THX standard theater off of the garage.....with the Digital Projection so I can see Episode II in the original format without down-conversion.

    Realistically....Toshiba 50" TheaterWide rear projection.

After the Outlaw 950, I don't have the slightest idea what to upgrade next? I'm thinking of messing around with a tubed stereo preamp for awhile until the next beta testing project starts...

    Next step?
    These things occur in steps[IMG]
    You could have fooled me!
(and to answer the question on a slightly more serious note: probably to sit back and listen to and watch some of the media that has accumulated during all my recent testing activity. Then I might refurbish my B&O 4002 turntable and add a phono-preamp to listen to some vinyl). But something else might come over the horizon and sidetrack me once more.)

Next step is a DIY subwoofer. Does anyone have an original SVS Driver available after their upgrade they will sell me? My theater is currently 5.0, I need to upgrade to 5.1!

Next step is to get into HDTV, I have my eye on a Mitsubishi 46" Widescreen. Then add an HD receiver.

Then build a cabinet to house all of my equipment that is stacked everywhere.
