Just got a new Sony KP57HW40 widescreen and have been fooling with their wide modes--normal, full, wide and wide zoom. So far I like the full mode the best for anamorphic dvds. How about you guys?

Typically normal is for 4:3 material, stretch mode 2 (wide zoom?) is for non-anamorphic and widescreen TV material and full mode is for anamorphic DVDs.

Apparently if you wanna watch 4:3 material to fill your screen (*shudder*) you can use wide mode 1.

These are based off Toshiba standards, but the basic ideas should be the same.

I really hate to see 4x3 material shown on a 16x9 set in stretch mode. I know some people on this forum say they do and it doesn't bother them, but boy it bothers me. I can't stand to see the distortion on the sides especially if a scene pans around, or if your watching a news program and the talking head looks like he/she is wearing David Byrne's "big suit" costume from Stop Making Sense [IMG]

i dont mind the stretched heads/rare panning problem as much as I hate the grey bars on the left and right. Thank god there is a choice, and one can choose to stretch the picture, or keep its aspect by having the bars.

i also agree, Full is the only way to view anamorphic material.
