What's wrong with my surround sound system? (1 Viewer)

I have a Sony surround sound system with three speakers and a sub woofer hooked up. Until recently it has worked like a champ.
The main issue is that I now have to turn the volume level up much more than I ever had to before. For example, I would normally watch TV at around 35, I am now watching it at 50. And it's not just my cable, I have noticed the same problem for my Xbox as well.
Another issue is that when I turn it up, normal conversations are too quiet while the action scenes at the same volume level will make your ears bleed.
Any help here would be greatly appreciated. FYI, the system has worked fine for over a year and this just started a few days ago. Also, one of my dogs could have easily stepped on my remote and changed a setting.
Thanks!

Now that we know this is a real AVR with digital and analog inputs.
how are your sources connected?
Hopefully everything goes to the AVR, then the video only goes to the TV.
