What's with all the traffic!!!!!! (1 Viewer)

Here we are, three days into the week where kids go back to school, and there's wall to wall traffic all over the place. And I am not speaking of the buses. It seems like my route to work has triple the amount of commuters. Absolutely insane. Has anyone else noticed this in their locale?

well yes...but then again I live close to the university campus and the university is about 15% of my fair town's population.
but i still do my part, I drive the 10blocks to school everyday!

I've always thought that traffic gets bad right after labor day because everybody is kind of rearranging their work schedule to account for having to get little Johnny or little Jane ready for the bus or actually have to drive him/her to school. At least that's my take on it...

Must be the same everywhere - Troy is a relatively small town and the traffic definitely has picked up within the last 4-5 years. I always seem to get stuck behind Grandpa Featherfoot, too...

Here in Arkansas, it's not so much an increase in the volume of traffic as it is traffic congestion caused by road construction. For 8 years, I've dealt with construction on the same interstate, within the same 35 mile stretch, to and from work. The sad part is.....they're fixing the wrong bloody part of the road!

There've been potholes a person could fish in, in the same spots for years, yet the highway dept. tears up the good sections of pavement and replaces those instead.

This is how it works everywhere. Our city spends millions to tear up and replace perfectly good roads, while the bad ones don't get touched. Do you know why this is? Well, I'll tell you: They get a specific amount of money each year from the state, and it's already earmarked for certain roads. For instance, this year, they might get $10Mil for Road X between mileposts 30 and 50. If they do not use that money to replace that road, they lose it. So the road gets replaced whether it's needed or not.
The whole system stinks for the taxpayers. There needs to be an easy way for the city to re-route the money to other road projects.
