Personally I expect the announcement to come in Dec or Jan, for an early 2002 release (spring-ish).

I figure they were waiting to capitalize on the surge of popularity of the fantasy genre generated by the upcoming Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings movies...

Mark Cappelletty gave the latest & greatest news in this thread , and it was backed up by DVD producer Charlie De Lauzirika. It looks like early 2002.

I certainly would want a theatrical re-release prior to its eventual DVD release. At least the "Star Wars", "Star Trek", and "Snowwhite" DVDs are enough to ease our impatience until Universal gives "the word".

I want 5.1 (DTS?) audio on both versions of the film...not just the Jerry Goldsmith score.

I'm with you on the 5.1 on both versions. Tangerine Dream in surround would be sweet.

I think Universal discovered that the producer of Legend also worked on Excel Saga, and are waiting for a tie-in (anime humor).

Look for Legend to be an Ultimate Edition and make its way onto store shelves late 2002.

Is the movie good enough for an Ultimate Edition? I've never seen it, is it good, or chessy cult 80's film?

Well if Patch Adams got one, then the answer is definitely yes. Legend is good enough and deserves an UE.

    I have a question...

Where does the desire to own this film come from?

I was reading some threads about it a few months ago and had never heard of it so I decided to rent it to watch. Honestly, I stopped it in the middle.

This is one of the most boring films I have ever encountered.

I later decided to be fair and watch it again, this time in its entirety. Sadly my first thoughts were unchanged. I must say there are films that are far much more deserving of a DVD release than this one (ie BTTF).

    Am I missing something here?

To each his own I guess....

To each his own. To me, Legend is one the most visually sumptuous films I have seen, and I love the Tangerine Dream soundtrack. I would like a proper version for my collection.

Josh I guess the same can be said on a persons desire to own Moulin Rouge, Jurassic Park 3, Willow, etc.. Everyone's mileage may vary and as you have stated your's does. Out of the people I know who have DVD collections I'd say that maybe 20% of our collections are the same movies/material. I'm personally looking forward to this WHENEVER the man finally releases it.
