What's the difference between digital and stereo receivers? (1 Viewer)

Looking around for HT stuff and I notice some labbeled as digital or stereo receivers. What is the difference between the two? Is one better then the other?

Digital is a processing and signal term
Stereo is more a Speaker term

Digital as opposed to Analog

Stereo, 5 channel stereo, 7channel stereo, Surround sound, 5.1,7.1 are all terms that refer to the number of speakers and what listing mode you are in.

Then you have DTS, NEO, etc etc.
