What's the best DVD viewing night you reckon you've had so far, if you can remember (with either a bunch of people, or even with only 1 or 2 other persons) and please say why and what the circumstances were, that made the night so memorable.

I don't know about best DVD viewing night EVER, but the Star Wars (OT) marathon I had in September at home with some 4 or 5 people was fun. We started early afternoon and went on well into the evening. One of us had never seen the movies... but she did know about Vador and Luke.

This only happened about a week or so ago.

My family is acting as a "host family" for a couple of girls from China who are attending a nearby college to do their graduate work. They don't live with us, we just get together with them once or twice a month or so and do various things (dinner, movies, socialize, etc.)

Their English is okay, but not great and we share a lot of cultural information with each other.

Well, I asked them if they were familiar with the Disney version of the story of Fa Mulan and they both lit up and explained how the story of Mulan is one every Chinese child grows up with, etc.

Later, during our visit I secretly set up the new Mulan SE in Mandarin 5.1. After the opening credits went by and the guard on the top of the great wall uttered his first words--in Chinese--both girls in unison shreiked in glee, "Its in Chinese!!!" We ended up watching quite a bit of it...but agreed to have a viewing at a later date. One later explained that she had actually seen Disney's Mulan in English when she was in China...but that this was the first time she had ever seen a cartoon in the Chinese language..."and I had to come to America to see it!".

The excitement that movie created for two girls in a foreign land was something I'll not likely forget anytime soon.

The night I aquired some of Amsterdam's finest, Purple Haze. A few close friends and I screened the Honey dvd. We were in stitches. I have never laughed so hard.

Ranks a distant second though to the Secretary viewing incident. :b

Tough one.

Each of the Lord of the Rings Extended Editions have been very special nights for us. One month before ROTK!

We had a marathon screening for all three Indiana Jones movies which was a huge success. Beer and gummi snakes all around.

One Easter we had a brunch which somehow turned into an Evil Dead marathon. People came over at 11 and didn't leave until 10!

We also had a marathon for the original Star Wars trilogy and unveiled our new plasma screen to our friends. We had about ten people over and never even got to Jedi!

Recently, the most fun I've had is with the Marx Brothers Silver Screen Collection. Just my wife and I but it's been great introducing all five films to her and watching them again for myself. She's out of town this weekend but I snuck out and got the Warners collection to pass the weekend!

I had a "Terminator BBQ" last year to commemorate the release of Terminator 3. After the BBQ all my friends and I sat down and watch T2, it was a lot of fun and a great way for me to show off my home theatre. :D

Mine would have to be watching Shrek 2 with my 4 and 7 yr old girls. The little one just jumped up out of her seat and started dancing at the party scene like she was part of the movie. I couldnt keep a smile off my face through out that whole movie and seeing how much my kids loved it made it even sweeter. Even if you dont have kids check out this flick.

On a rainy Saturday my girlfriend and I had a Spielberg Marathon. We got a bunch of movie treats, Popcorn, gummy bears, hot dogs, rot you teeth soda, beer for myself. We got through "Raiders of the Lost Ark" "Jurassic Park" "Jaws" and "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" Seemed like an overload, but fun at the same time.

I've thrown a LoTR party around each release of the EEs and plan to do it again this year with RotK. Every year I've had a different (and increasingly better) display, which is funny and kind of embarrassing at the same time. :b This year I'm I'm "going big" for the occasion and using my projector with a 73" screen.
