I have something to review today, but then I'll be enjoying last night's Noir Alley Pickup on South Street. The new season of Endeavour begins tonight on PBS, too.

Back to the Disney Vault last night. In living Black & White. OK but not as much fun as I remembered - is it the movie or just me?

It's not just you because we change in age and so does the effect a movie might have on us.

I remember as a child waiting in a huge line wrapped around the theatre for this movie when it opened. We had to wait for an entire showing to finish before we got into the next one.

After swooning over Swing Time yesterday, I was in the mood for more Fred and Ginger so I took out the DVD of The Gay Divorcee today and watched it. I remembered that the Oscar-winning "The Continental" went on for something like twenty minutes, but I had forgotten that Erik Rhodes sang it during the production number, and not badly either.

I watched The Thin Man on the iTunes HD stream. The picture had some source damage and a lot of aliasing artifacts. I hope these are cleaned up for the blu-Ray next month.

That HD stream on iTunes is old and the following was posted by Warner Archive today about The Thin Man:

"NEW 2019 1080p HD MASTER RESTORED FROM NEW 4K SCAN OF BEST ARCHIVAL ELEMENTS!"

I knew they were going to have to do something superior to what we've been watching for the last twenty years. A great film but ragged in quite a few places.

I'm going the cheese factory route today by watching the Blu-ray of Xanadu. I'm not sure I ever saw it again after seeing it at the movies all those decades ago.

Was up for some action. I enjoyed this better this time around because I knew it wasn't Sherlock Holmes but just an action picture in Victorian times. Robert Downey Jr. will never be Basil Rathbone.;)

Another Disney live action movie. This one has become pretty obscure. When we were last at Disney World we sat by the Liberty Tree. Nobody - but nobody noticed it.
Quality is OK - a Blu Ray upgrade would be nice but I doubt it will ever happen.

I'm back from my trip to the Library of Congress and I can report that I spent some quality time with 2 HTF members who were there on a "secret" mission.;)
These were the feature films I saw at the LOC:
Adventure's End: A John Wayne 1937 61-minute epic distributed by Universal. Passable fare. Wayne is called Duke in this film. Is this the first time he is called Duke?
The Winning of Sally Temple (1917) Starring Fanny Ward. Not very good.
Penrod and Sam (1923) Earliest version of the story. I found it engaging. I've seen the two subsequent talkie versions.
The Dangerous Maid (1923) Starring Constance Talmadge. Not very good. The sets are repurposed from The Hunchback of Notre Dame's.

I saw this film when it first came out and I was still a boy. I once saw it again later on television but never since. I'd like to see it again. I'd buy a Blu-ray disc immediately!

The last time I watched it was when TCM was having one of its Disney Vault nights. I have always enjoyed the movie, and it looked good on TCM, but I've never owned it on any home video format. I'd love to have a Blu-ray of it.

Same here, first viewing as a boy when it came out, and then during a TCM Vault event. Good film.
