I have Noir Alley's Key Largo to watch today, and I also bought the streaming HD version of Doris Day's Young at Heart which I haven't seen in ages and will also revisit today.

    Over the weekend:
The Tales of Hoffmann (Studio Canal BD Zone B) The Archers' intoxicating, delirious LSD Technicolor trip. Jaw-dropping beautiful.
Female Prisoner Scorpion: Beast Stable (Arrow BD) Number 3 in the series. Violent, bloody; not as stylish as the first 2 entries.
A Woman's Life (Arrow Academy BD Zone B) Based on a Guy de Maupassant novel. Excellent film, subtle and deeply affecting. Shot in 1.33 ratio.
Zero de conduite; A propos de Nice; La natation par Jean Taris (Gaumont BD Zone B) My gorgeous box of the 2017 restorations of Vigo's films arrived from France. Although Zone B, these films are English friendly. A propos and La natation are documentaries with witty visual flashes of surrealism. Zero is a masterpiece of anarchic film making. The pillow fight is an homage to Gance's Napoleon, and the final scene is lifted for Anderson's If...
    Sunday:
Alternate versions of Zero de conduite and A propos de Nice (Gaumont box) The final versions viewed on Saturday are superior, although I believe they were not seen at the time of release.
L'Atalante (Gaumont box) Vigo's final film and one of the sublime masterpieces of cinema. Definitely one of the best films I've ever seen since I first saw it on TV as a very young teen and was shocked (in a good way) by the overt yet delicate eroticism between the leads. I can't say enough about this film. Brilliant.
Female Prisoner Scorpion: #701's Grudge Song (Arrow BD) Fourth and final installment in the series. The original director returns and so do the visual stylings. Violent and bloody as well.
Fantomas (Kino BD) 1964 reboot of the Fantomas character first filmed by Feuillade. Starring Jean Marais. Enjoyable romp.

Having watched a pan & scan DVD of Sapphire a few days ago, I compensated with a splendid Blu-ray disc of All Night Long which was produced and directed by the same team of Michael Relph and Basil Dearden, Although the title suggests a sex film, All Night Long is a good re-imagining of Othello set among jazz musicians during an extended music party.

As the British Film Institute has released this film on Blu-ray disc with a really good transfer, I hope they will give the same treatment to Sapphire which deserves a high quality release.

    Initiating rub it process in 3, 2, 1 :rolling-smiley:

    giphy (3).

Besides the build quality and looking awesome the picture quality right out of the box is great. Watching Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 I felt there was more detail and sharpness and better color over my previous Samsung 8500. I also felt there was more depth to the picture as well. The draw and operation are very quite and it reacts quickly. I honestly see a good difference without tweaking the HDR optimizer on my Sony XBR55A9F 4K OLED. You should get one! :thumbs-up-smiley:

Last night I saw the Grease Sing-A-Long with around 600 people at an old movie palace. The crowd was enthusiastic and fun was had by all.

After I finish watching last night's Fosse/Verdon, I'm going to be doing some work on my audio system and suspect it will take a goodly portion of the afternoon. I hope to get to Spider-Man: Into the Spider Verse tonight.

Very curious on your take on Spider-Man. I'm not sure it's my cup of tea so I haven't bit yet.

    Tuesday's viewing:
Long Day's Journey into Night (DCP) Bi Gan's film concludes with one long tracking shot (ca. 59 minutes I think) in 3D. Still trying to get my head around this one. The whole film is not presented in 3D; just the long final shot.
Fosse/Verdon (FX HD) Still fascinating, more so to me since I saw this original production of Chicago.
Le Coup du berger (TCM) Charming short directed by Jacques Rivette, with a twist ending out of Guy de Maupassant.
Ikarie XB 1 (Second Run BD Zone B) Czech science-fiction film. A seminal film from 1963.

Yesterday I had a second viewing of Big Wednesday, this time to listen to the commentary track from John Milius. I'm not usually a fan of these tracks but this one held my attention throughout.

Today I'll watch either A Town Like Alice or Le Plaisir.
