Wife out playing cards with her friends = 3D night for me.

I watched the last half of “Puss and Boots”, followed by “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom”, followed by the last half of “Avengers: Infinity War” in 2D with commentary. I will watch it in 3D next time.

That's ironic! I watched Christie's Sleeping Murder (the Joan Hickson version) last night! Great minds and all that!

We're in sync - I gotta pull out some Hickson

We've been on a Christie kick for the last couple of weeks alternating with other stuff. I just got the Suchet Poirot BDs and getting ready to put those on the projector. Plus still gotta keep up with the B mystery series.

I should be getting Solo on UHD today, so I may watch that, or I may spend the day clearing off the DVR which has several TV shows from earlier in the week and a few movies on it. I'll see what my mood is around lunchtime.

Also, I just got an e-mail from Amazon reminding me that season three of The Man in the High Castle is now available for viewing, so there is another TV show that enters the rotation.

Do you have the Joan Hickson Miss Marple Blu-Rays, Marv? They look fantastic remastered for HD.

Love the first two Ustinov Poirot films. How is Crooked House? The book is a good one.

Really want these ASAP...but moving house this month, which is hitting the pocketbook hard...so will have to wait for a future Kino sale.

Have the Hickson DVD's - the Blu Rays will have to be down the road a bit.

This will be our first viewing of Crooked house. It got held back a day - company last night so the theater was dark.

Sorry, Marv...thought I was quoting Matt re: Crooked House. Please let us know what you think of it after you watch it. And when you can, try and nab those Hickson Marple Blu-Ray sets...they are worth every penny, and then some. Similar HD clean-up to the Poirot and Brett Holmes sets.

Yesterday I watched Campbell's Kingdom, a British film from the mid 1950s. Network's Blu--ray disc is good.

Yep, the Joan Hickson/Marple Blu-rays are EONS advanced in picture quality from the DVDs. The DVDs were mostly brownish and rather ugly; the Blu-rays actually restore color to the presentations, and the sharpness improvement is incalculable.

When they were first being released on Blu-ray, I put in to review all three Blu-ray sets, but I only received Volume three for review. That review can be found here.

October 5th, 2018 Friday (Last movie watched was 8/30/2018 - Full Metal Jacket from HD-DVD)

    Star Trek (2009)
    4K blu-ray
Dolby Atmos (7.1.0) Receiver capable of 7.2.4

First movie through new Marantz SR-8012. Just wanted to view a movie and also for evaluation purposes on new receiver as I was looking for distortion/anomalies in the picture or edge issues of any kind. Was also listening to sound quality. Do not yet have speakers for height channels so as soon as I am able to upgrade the surrounds the current surrounds will become height speakers. Also need to upgrade those in the near future. Fine adjustments of new receiver have just begun!

I watched The Outsider last night, the one starring George Sanders. I'm an admirer of George Sanders. I think he was a very good actor with a range far wider than most people recognise. In The Outsider he plays an Italian maverick doctor who heals crippled patients with unusual methods. An interesting film but not especially well known.

Finally got in Agatha Cristie's Crooked House.
Nice copy - a bit dark but most of the locations were dark. Decent sound. Good puzzle. No warmth - no humor. A bit slow at times (but that's not that uncommon with Christie stuff). Worth the watch but not one that I'll revisit soon unlike the Suchet Poirots. IMDB gave it middle sixes and I agree.

With Dave mentioning HD-DVD, it reminds me that I have a few HD-DVDs still in their shrink wrap, and I'll be curious to see if they will play or have disc rot. I'll start today with Daylight.

I'm taking a staycation this week and with the weather feeling very autumnal, it's the perfect time to watch some Blu-rays!

I've been rewatching Downton Abbey from the beginning (and very much looking forward to the film next year) and watched episodes 5 and 6 this morning.
I also rewatched the Warner Archive's excellent Father of the Bride Blu-ray.

And as it's a foggy, rainy day, I thought it was the perfect opportunity to take my Blu-ray of Footsteps in the Fog for a spin today. This release has received some criticism, but I enjoyed watching this wonderfully atmospheric film again.
