The Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid 4K/UHD release has a MSRP of $69.95. It has three film versions.

STAR!, AIRPORT, THE SOUND OF MUSIC, THE GREATEST STORY EVER TOLD. Also, THE MIRACLE. Not because I have any great love for it (perhaps the stupidest film ever made), but I've always wanted to see a great print in its Technirama aspect ratio and stereophonic sound.

Good question.

Don't think there would be many on my list.

Eyes Wide Shut
The Searchers
Dark City
Manhunter
Thin Red Line

A Civil Action, The Color Of Money and Other People's Money too if no blu ray release but would be content if a HD disc made those two movies available.

TCOM does have a HD blu ray release but is a poor representation as far as I can tell from reviews.

Too late! You're asking too much. So many of the responses have a snowball's chance in hell of being released on a 4K UHD disc. But disc collectors aren't realistic. They're dreamers. Not putting shade on anyone, I include myself in the dreamer category.

I see that

I appreciate everyone's response but this topic didn't receive the response I sought.

I didn't want this turning into people's wish lists that have been posted ad nauseam across this forum, most of which don't have a snowball's chance of hell being released -- hence the request to be "realistic."

I was hoping for one or two special titles that you would spend way more money than you normally would to purchase on day one.

I suspected $50 would be far too much for some people to spend on a title, however, a few people had no problem spending that amount on a bunch of titles which makes me think I should have set the spending threshold higher.

On top of that, the very week I post a thread like this, Criterion announces its first 4k release at a $70 price point.

This was a good experiment which I blame myself for not phrasing better.

This was a good experiment which I blame myself for not phrasing better.

If you're asking for reasons which are completely unrelated to making silly wishlists, I do have a second big reason for doing preorders. Though this is more applicable to tv show season dvd sets (or complete series), and not so much to bluray yet (or 4Kbluray for that matter).

I've been ordering tv shows season sets online primarily from amazon. Though over the past 5+ years or so, I've been encounter one too many counterfeit bootleg sets which were "mixed in" with the legitimate stock. For example, I have encountered several counterfeit copies of NCIS franchise tv season dvd sets. (I order explicitly from amazon's own listed inventory, and not third party dealers). It is a complete headache doing returns/exchanges for such bootleg crap, though amazon is good about handling such cases.

Over the past two years or so, I decided it was easier to just do preorders on upcoming tv season sets (or complete series sets), where the bootlegger copies have likely not been "mixed in" yet with the legitimate inventory at amazon. (The nearby Walmarts don't really carry tv show season sets anymore). Less headaches with returns/exchanges and driving to the post office, which can be time consuming. As I get older, my personal time is more valuable to me than driving around.

I don't know of many recent annecdotal stories about this being a significant problem with bluray sets. Bootleggers don't seem to have easy access to bluray (or 4Kbluray) cutting machines yet, while a few old cutting machines to make the cd and dvd stampers have somehow ended up in the hands of professional bootleggers. Though the day will come when such black market folks will end up getting their hands on bluray cutting + manufacturing equipment.
