    Hi all,

The word on the street is that Best Buy has entered into agreements with television manufacturers to carry higher end set in select stores. Mitsubishi Diamond and Pioneer Elite are two of the names I've heard.

Also, to bolster the new product line, they are attempting to attract higher caliber sales associates.

Does anybody know anything about this and, if so, what are your thoughts?

That would be welcome news, particularly about the salespeople. Around here they are notorious for having unmotivated and uneducated salespeople.

A year or two ago Best Buy bought the Magnolia chain of AV retailors. People worried that Magnolia would go down-hill because of it, but they still seem quite good and carry the better retail lines.

My guess is they are trying to leverage that practice (and purchase agreements) to upscale the AV department at the more numerious BB stores.

I've not seen any real upgrade in the sales people as of yet.

The only reason I can see for The Darth Vader of retail going upscale is that the margins are significantly better on the high end.
